I am currently building my first computer, I put my GPU into place then realized I accidently had a fan cable trapped between the GPU and motherboard. I attempted to unlatch the clip but was unable to do so, so I applied some force and removed the GPU but then the clip broke off.

I have a 3080 to put into the computer and have read online that as long as I screw it down well and don't transport it much that it should be fine. But I am not entirely convinced because of how large the card is, it is also worth mentioning before this happened I bought a GPU brace to support the card a little more.

With a well screwed down GPU + a brace should I be okay or is this something to be concerned about?

I would be more concerned of the potential of damage to the PCIe pins in this case. Hopefully the plastic clip let loose before any damage was done to those pins.

If you're worried you can use your computer in horizontal position - this way the weight of the card is perpendicular to the slot and helps keep the card in the slot.

I'd say a simple screw should be enough as long as you don't move the pc. or kick it. or have some heavy bass subwoofer or something close to the pc causing vibrations that could move the card in the slot.
