For $869 you can get a FTW3 Ultra 3080 now.

Blacks are designed to underperform so it will run more like a 3070 ti than a 3080.

That is the way it is with my XC3 Ultra 3080 ti vs my FTW3 Ultra 3080 ti. There is a 10 frame difference between them and the XC3 frames were closer to my Strix 3080 than the FTW3.

It is an $80 difference but I think it is worth it.

I doubt you'll see much of any of the cheaper 10GB 3080's come back. They would much rather sell you a more expensive 12GB version.

wait or pay what it's actually worth.

MSRP is just a "suggestion" afaik ; )

Also tsmc and samsung have some pretty substantial price hikes coming up so its unlikely silicone prices stay as low as they currently are.

ps: that card is already under "MSRP" 🧐

I did not say that.

I said it would run more like a 3070 ti than a 3080.

I was also comparing it against the FTW3 Ultra version that uses 380 watts stock and 450 watts with the power limit up.

To give you an idea about EVGA versions here is the difference between My XC3 Ultra 3080 ti, FTW3 Ultra 3080 ti and Strix 3080(sold) in 2 games with an i9 9900k.

Shadow of the tomb Raider with the highest preset.

                                         1080p         1440p        4k

Strix 3080                         167fps        144fps       87fps

XC3 Ultra 3080 ti              168fps        143fps       83fps

FTW3 Ultra 3080 ti           169fps        154fps       96fps

Horizon Zero Dawn on ultra.

                                          1080p        1440p        4k

Strix 3080                          134fps       118fps       80fps

XC3 Ultra 3080 ti               147fps       128fps       79fps

FTW3 Ultra 3080 ti            155fps       138fps       88fps

The EVGA budget 3080 ti runs more like the Strix 3080 than it does the FTW3 Ultra.

With the 20 series is was more to do with cooling than silicon that separated the EVGA versions but with the 30 series it is definitely the silicon.

The budget cards are extremely power limited and the high end cards are not.

Here are the power limits of the 3 cards.

Strix 3080(high end)  370, 450 watts.

EVGA XC3 Ultra 3080 ti(budget) 350, 366 watts.

EVGA FTW3 Ultra 3080 ti(high end) 400, 450 watts.

Overclocked the XC3 Ultra ran out of power before it ran out of clocks.

My midrange MSI Gaming X Trios 3080 ti/3090s are power limited as well but not to the extent that the XC3 is.

I don't own a 3070 ti but I have watched lots of vs videos and they have them 4 to 5 frames apart so it make sense to me that the EVGA Black 3080 will perform closer to the 3070 ti.

450 W? Do you really get that much of a performance increase by putting that much power through it? And what about temperatures? My 3080 will use 350 W and puts out a lot heat also I undervolt it to achieve 1920 MHz at 270 W. Saves a lot of power and heat without a great loss of performance.

I have only used an overclock on 30 series GPUs to do bench testing so the fans are at 100%. For gaming I don't overclock them at all.

My RTX 2080 ti had 24/7 overclocks but I have not needed to with the 30s.

Here are the Strix 3080 Time Spy scores with and without an overclock.
