Dunk it in a tub of 99% IPA (do not let the IPA get to the monitor) and wait a few hours for the IPA to clean the insides of your laptop, then open it and repaste everything that uses thermal paste cause IPA dissolves thermal paste then leave to dry for a day or 2

Not sure if there are any extra steps so if there are then someone pls add, im pretty sure theres threads of ppl doing this and fixing theyre laptops (pretty much the reason i know IPA can clean computers) so check those out

The IPA cleans the laptop but if it gets under the display itll evaporate inside it and ruin the display so dont get the display submerged at all

Don't submerge your entire laptop in isopropyl alcohol. That's killing a fly with a sledgehammer, you're going to cause more (and worse) problems than you'll solve.

Remove the keyboard and spot-clean any sticky spots on the chassis around it with isopropyl alcohol and paper towels. If the laptop's power button isn't part of the keyboard assembly, try booting it up and using an external keyboard.

Hopefully, only the keyboard has liquid damage. You might have to clean the membranes that make up the key matrix, or get a replacement keyboard.

I sold my soul for ProSupport.

Dumping a laptop inside a isopropyl alcohol is one of the dumbest things anyone can do. Batteries will short and you will have a bomb on your hands not to mention you pretty much will be shorting everything so there is a good chance that it wont work afterwards. Please stop recommending things you dont have any clue about.

I can dunk fully discharged mobos in both 99% IPA and water and have it work fine after drying (but its a last resort you do if normal troubleshooting and cleaning doesnt work), though thats just normal pc mobos that are fully discharged by taking out the battery and shorting clr cmos for a minute or 2

I think the reason ppl can dunk theyre laptops in IPA and have them work afterwards is removable battery aka fully discharged laptop, if you can disconnect or remove your battery itd prob work but i should have said its a freaking last resort and not just haha dunk the f ing laptop in ipa as the first thing you try

If you are gonna open the thing anyways just dunk the keyboard in 99% IPA, that will fully clean it and make sure theres no filth, if that doesnt work then look at the connectors and clean them both on the keyboard and mobo

if that doesnt work then try literally everything else then resort to the sledgehammer aka dunking the entire thing with removed battery while making sure its fully discharged (take out the cmos for safety if you like), and yes def buy another laptop keyboard before even getting near dunking the entire thing in IPA to make sure its not the stupid keyboard causing it

*sigh* once again you are attempting to float up top.

There is no such thing as "fully discharged", a battery cell will hold charge to some degree until its not usable anymore (meaning it wont hold charge or charge at all).

Dunking board into IPA is fine, I do it everything I do SMD work, dunking board with active power into IPA is not.

IPA alone also doesnt clean anything without physical agitation. I have a ultrasonic cleaner that I put the circuits I worked on first then I rinse them off with IPA as the reason why we use IPA is to evaporate water used for cleaning.

You also did not recommend OP to remove the battery or do anything special to their device without putting into alcohol bath. Liquids also ruin LCDs, you clearly didnt know about that either.

You clearly have no experience in the field, please stop trying to sound like you do and stop giving advice on things you dont know.

Lol... LCD wont "evaporate", backlight will be ruined and/or light diffusion layer will be stained resulting in backlight bleed like behavior. None of the things you said are in your original post, you only included them in your second post after we pointed out your BS.

Thats what i think i meant, though ive mostly seen non fatal internal screen damage as an evaporated spot so i thought that somehow the IPA evaporated between the lcd and glass

Short story first.

Had a laptop that got wet from sitting on the step of a Freightliner. The technician left it and walked away. The snow on the roof melted while he ate his lunch, and right into the laptop.

I stripped the laptop down, cleaned and dried it by hand using any available means, in the end using shop air to blow most of the water out.

Now, you'll have to tear down that laptop and clean in by hand. Carefully.

Dawn dish soap works wonders, just need a drop in a cup of water.

Q-tips and a small soft tooth brush for cleaning.

Let dry at least 24-48 hours.

Assemble and cross your fingers.

But I bet it's mostly the keyboard you have an issue with from the sounds of it.

Good Luck man!

Removing a battery from a laptop these days isn't the easiest thing. Usually you have to nearly disassemble the whole thing to do so anyway. And since you already have to go that far, you're better off just cleaning the obviously dirty parts comprehensively vs. dunking the whole thing (even if it was safe to do so) IMO
