Actually dissapointed in Asus

LennyD

Hello. I am mainly opening this thread to find out what people think of Asus monitors. Last week i have bought a VG279QR ASUS 27" monitor, brand new and it had a stuck green pixel. I also opened a thread regarding that issue(which i will link down below). To sum it up, i tried multiple fixes to it but it did not work i ended up returning it. At first i did not want to buy a new one but i ended up getting one again today. After around 4 hours of use i noticed a pixel that stays red/purple on white.

I am totally gonna return it since i doubt any fixes that were recommended for the previous issue will work.

I do not understand how the previously owned generic Ben-Q office monitors functioned perfectly for 4-5 years with no issue, the only reason i changed them was because i wanted something better and i ended up with this issue. Twice. On brand new monitors. And the monitor is not a cheap one to justify this issue.

I normally trust ASUS, most of the PC parts i owned were produced by them and i did not have any issues with them, that's why i opted to pick this monitor produced by them. Also the fact that people generally review ASUS monitors as good made an impact on my decision making process.

Do ASUS monitors tend to have issues like this?

Is it a regular thing for newer monitors? (as i said i never owned anything better than a generic office monitor)

What are your experiences with ASUS monitors?

Please refrain yourself from telling me not to look at it and other suggestions like that.

If you do have any suggestions on how to maybe fix it let me know.

That's where the mistakes can happen.

Never buy something based on a brand name , and never assume something from a specific brand will be "the same as it was in the past" or "equal in quality to other products they make". Buy it based on reviews or experience for that very specific model.

It's not like theres a single guy that works at Asus who values quality over anything else , and has been working there even since the company started. It's tons of different divisions and different designers that are cycled out constantly. The logo is the only thing the new and old products will share

As i said, i did not only buy it for the name. I did my research and as i mentioned people gave it a good rating, that was mostly the decision point. I personally would not buy a product made by a brand i did not hear of if it had good ratings. Or at least it would not be in the top picks. You expect quality from brands but i guess like everything nowadays quality goes down in time.

Was also thinking that the retailer i bought it home maybe had a bad batch but i am done trying for now.

There is no fix for dead pixel. Warranty only covers when the dead pixel count above the threshold (usually 3 to 5 depending on the brand).

Factory defect are common, it happens in all brands.

You are probably the unfortunate 1 who got a bad product out of 10000 people satisfied. It will still got high ratings.

ASUS didn't make the lcd panel, they outsourced it.

1 defect out of thousands is considered normal.

Plus it could be a particular bad batch of panels, in which case buying the same monitor from a different store might have better luck.

Make that unfortunate 2 out of 1000 lol. Considering i bought 2 units in 2 weeks from the same vendor they are probably from the same batch and there is probably an issue with that certain batch. Luckily i am still in the 31 day return no questions asked from then vendor period so i am able to return it. Still a bad experience and non refundable shipping fee. Times 2.

both got dead pixel? that's very unfortunate.

well the lesson is for an items that size, probably better to just buy it from your local store.

The first one had a stuck pixel, this one on a closer inspection seems to be dead. I bought it from one of the biggest retailers here and it is dissapointing that it happened. I might have to look for a local store as you said, although they are beginning to be more scarce and close to non existant around here, even if it is a big city.

Yeah, there is a chance of that as well.

I'd say "bad" pixels are not that common. I personally never had one on a new monitor.

On one AOC monitor i had a few pixels that got stuck a few years after buying it, but after running some "pixel saver" website for a few hours i could recover them.

My C9 OLED TV has one dead pixel in the lower right corner. But this one only died recently. It's not noticeable from a normal viewing distance.

Other than these 2 cases i never had problems with dead/stuck pixels. And i had a lot of different displays over the last 5 years.

If someone did not use reason to reach their conclusion in the first place, you cannot use reason to convince them otherwise.

Yeah i tried multiple pixel saver programs for multiple hours but they did not do it for me.

I owned like 5 monitors before this one and only one had a dead pixel after 4000+ of use which was not that bad back then. Now out of the box dead pixels are something else.

I'm sorry you've had bad experiences. My first Asus is now serving as my second monitor, and I bought a new Asus a year ago. Both are fine with no pixel issues. I'd say buy a lottery ticket because your luck has been so bad, it's bound to flip to the other end.

I can only said you are probably unlucky and specifically unlucky with Asus brand monitor.

Same thing happened to me for ViewSonic monitor. 1st is ViewSonic VX3209-2K and happened ants go in and stuck at the center which I use it less than a week. I complain till headquarter to get it refund 100%.

2nd unit I buy is ViewSonic VP2468 and after few months usage the monitor suddenly no power. I do get repair within warranty FOC. I sold it after repaired.

So far touch wood I never had issue with LG, Samsung, Asus and BenQ. Total 9 monitors I bought, and only 2 monitors give me issues within very short usage period and both from ViewSonic. 😅

It's not abnormal for a single dead pixel. You were unlucky by getting 2 bad panels in a row but that's still not out of the ordinary. Don't let this shy you away from a particular brand if it has the appropriate specs you're after. I'd only give bad marks to a "brand" is if their customer service is non-existent or very poor. You can't control what's going on behind the scenes but if they aren't willing to help you out as a paying customer your money can go elsewhere. A good business knows this and hopefully will always try their best to help you out.

As a side note, back in November 2016 I ordered 20 SSD's. Out of that batch of 20, 3 were dead upon arrival. Talk about bad luck. Yet I sent them back and got 3 perfectly working SSD's back. Those 20 PC's with SSD's are used 6 days a week and are still running strong. (5+ years later!)

It's easy to get upset when you spend money on something and it doesn't work right. Just take a breather and go through the proper channels to get the issue resolved and you should be fine.
