What does "show in folder" do?

When I click on "show in folder" before downloading something does it download it?

If it does, I might have just downloaded a virus. 

Help is appreciated!

It opens the folder where you're downloading said file.

It will just open up the folder where the file is downloaded to, and it will highlight it. It shouldn't open the downloaded file at all, so if it is a virus that you've downloaded, disposal should be relatively easy to accomplish.

So, what happened was I clicked on a virus link. 

It gave me three options. 

I didn't open the folder, but I clicked to show in folder. 

Will this give me a virus?

If you click that after you're already downloaded(ing) the virus, you're gonna get a virus.

Delete the file you downloaded and run a scan if you are worried.

Show in folder mostly works on files that are already downloaded. It just opens folder where file is located. Nothing more.
