12600k vs 3900K

Guys, any good reason to go for 12600k along my 3900X and X570 chipset.

I am talking about pure gaming performance and know 3900X is not CPU made for gaming rather for multithreaded apps.

I assume only what is recommended is to go for 12700K but I'm low on budget, that CPU is far more expensive.

I've seen some tests 12600K beats 3900x in single core perf but in multicore 12600k is damn close in Cinebench.

Dunno though in gaming performance, 3900x has really low single core speed.

Maybe better option is to go for hmm 5800x.

So I strictly am looking gaming CPU for 1440p with midrange price nothing too much expensive with 2080 Super.

I assume 5600X is waste of money.

Then again 5800x for 400 euros is a lot $ (here).

Please do not take offence for my apparent confusion or rudeness,it's not intent me to be like that,it's just my BPD,be nice to me,and I'll return twice better,be rude and usually I get easly pissed of...I'll try to help anyone here,as long as it's something I dealt with, and even if you think I'm rude or not polite, forgive me,  it's not me it's my BPD.

Thanks for understanding.

i'd go for 5800x/5900x/3d, whatever fits your budget and keep ur mobo/ram, if pricing is unfavorable then just wait a bit,  3900x isn't a dinosour yet,

i'd only go for 12th gen with ddr5 but ddr5 ram/mobo is kinda scuffed atm

You're not getting that many frames with a 2080s at 1440p these days, what makes you think the 3900x isnt good enough?

@1440p the performance difference between the CPUs will be next to none, or at least not really noticeable for most games.

If someone did not use reason to reach their conclusion in the first place, you cannot use reason to convince them otherwise.

Hmm buying 5800x over 3900x..not sure how much gain in gaming performancs would I get..probablt few frames...

3900x has shitty multicore only to 4.2GHz...dont know if that is enough for modern games..much other CPUs beats it easily.

So I assume waste of money buying even 12600K or 5800X just for few extra frames?

Pretty much, yes.

That comparison is pretty useless for you. It's at 1080p. At 1440p the CPU already plays a much smaller role.

If someone did not use reason to reach their conclusion in the first place, you cannot use reason to convince them otherwise.

At that resolution, with that GPU and CPU combo, you're not going to see any performance improvements in gaming if you upgrade your CPU.
A 3900X doesn't hold back a 2080S in any way in games.

Never upgrade for a few extra frames. Every time you make a purchase, you lose some money. To reduce cost on this, spend thousands to do big upgrades every a couple of years instead.

The only time it's worth upgrading for small gains is when you can still use the parts you're upgrading from.

In my case, there's always someone in my house who needs or can use some kind of upgrade via my leftovers.

At least, that's what I tell myself.

Could upgrade from 3900X to 5800X but completly loss of $...

Only if you don't keep using the 3900x. Or if you don't sell it off to help fund the 5800x.

The worst is buying the 5800x and throwing the 3900x into the parts bin unused.

I would do it. 3900X is slow. I mean if you need cores it’s still “ok”. But it is totally out gunned by zen3 and 12th gen.

At 1440p with a 2080 Super? Not really, unless you're playing mainly competitive games and aiming for really high FPS. As shown here, across 16 games, using an RX 6800 (which is way faster than a 2080 Super), at 1440p, there's not much difference between Zen 2 and Zen 3. The difference is even smaller with a 2080 Super.

Maybe for competitive gaming it could be worth it. Maybe. But even then, unless the OP already has a 1440p 240Hz monitor and not a lower refresh rate one, I'd recommend upgrading the monitor first to actually display the frames generated over upgrading the CPU. At 1440p competitive settings, the 3900X can easily get you over 240fps average in CSGO, Fortnite, R6S, etc while not suffering from frame stuttering thanks to the insane levels of CPU overhead that still remain unused by those types of games.

I just look back to my 3600XT that I ran before my 5600X. The XT was a terrific CPU, but for daily stuff, benchmarks.. the 5600X just mopped the floor with it. Let alone 5900X that can do 5150 single core.. just blows it away. I don’t really care about gaming too much, but I do enjoy the performance.

This is good information but often I believe is not always representative of real world performance.

Depending on games, and especially on non-ultra settings (like most folk run) the differences are greater. I love HUB but I wish they'd ditch Ultra settings for CPU testing. Running a 6800 at medium would bring the results closer (not close, but closer) to a 2080S level to give a better evaluation.

In MMO, online, and competitive games, I'm certain there's a much more significant difference between the older processors and the new.

Still though, if you're going to just throw the 3900x away, it's not worth the money.
