Gives me old all-in-one vibes from HP. The only difference is that for those that want an all-in-one design, this is designed to allow for an upgrade path in the future.

This will never take off because gaming laptops are just way more cost-effective and convenient overall + the panel is actually protected by the laptop's cover while in transit.

Still, it's a very cool concept for a more compact PC. It may appeal to enthusiasts who have very limited desk space, but want high-end performance that they can't get from one of those mini-computers intel and apple make.

This is an interesting design for a portable, open-air case, though I do have some reservations.

First, the monitor isn't as flush with the chassis as it could've been, and the fact it is TN feels like a missed opportunity. There is also the issue the panel has nothing to protect if someone, god forbid, collides with their desk and it tips over, or even when it's in the backpack. The chassis is fiddly, where I think the rear grate's holes are too big. I also don't like the "feet", which seem difficult to adjust when it is full of components...

I can see where the concept for this product came from, however - test benches. Every 1st-Gen product for a company is a baptism of fire and, despite my complaints, it acquits itself pretty well. As to improvements or options, I think it needs or could offer the following:

  • Changing the panel to IPS (maybe even an HDR 400 touchpanel option) would help it to compete with pen displays like Wacom MobileStudio.
  • If it doesn't come in a pelican case, customers need a monitor shield that could either attach to it with gromits, or a side-folding hinge. A hood accessory might also be beneficial in some situations.
  • A kickstand or two foldable legs would make it more sturdy and safer on a desk.
  • If not smaller holes for the rear grate, some magentic dust filters could defend against pets and insects getting at components when in use.
  • Many customers would likely appreciate other colours, such as white or brushed silver.

I thought about something like this so long ago. I think having a thin monitor size chassis and mounting a monitor to it as a DIY AIO is cool. The legs are impressive. But you can do so much more with it to make it better. Still, it is unique.

What you need to do to make it unique and stand out... Design a clip-on VESA adapter with a release clip that is accessible while the monitor is mounted to the chassis and making the monitor removable without disassembling the PC.

When the VESA redesign is done, do the following:

  • Give the chassis the full treatment to make it a compelling and quality standalone case without the AIO features. The stand and handles are enough to make it a portable PC chassis that is unique on its own.
    • Include matte black internal dividers to keep the heat moving vertically instead of internally circulating and mixing.
  • When you want to go AIO mode, you then attach a VESA connector to the back of your everyday monitor and clip the VESA bracket into the chassis.
    • You could design a variety of VESA brackets to increase monitor compatibility.
    • Support for curved ultrawide panel support for instances the end user is not planning to make the unit portable.
  • Pull out a well-padded bag and you have a semi-mobile gaming AIO with an oversized padded plate on the screen side to prevent damage.
  • The fourth dimension....
    • Having a chassis with a unique clip-on VESA connector gives you another trick. You could have a wall mount adapter that matches your clip-on VESA adapter design. This would allow you to wall mount the chassis as well.
      • A glass panel and RGB kit for a more permanent wall mounting setup that bumps out the panel a bit to allow for more passive cooling.

A case that can go from the wall to the desk to an AIO to on the road without making any changes to the chassis or hardware config. The desktop chassis is your base model. You have the bag as an accessory. VESA monitor mounts and wall mounts as accessories. The glass panel and RGB wall mount kit.

  • 9 months later...

This is cool, reminds me of the old Dell XPS M2010 portable desktop PC, but customizable 😄
