Backlight vs Brightness - which setting to change?

I just bought a new Sceptre 1440p monitor and noticed that there are 2 settings on the OSD that control how bright the screen gets - "brightness" and "backlight". Which one should I change and why?

Have you tried turning it off and on again?

Probably backlight. That changes the actual brightness of the monitor, where brightness probably changes the brightness of the input. Hardware adjustment (backlight) is better since it will keep the colors and contrast ratio and it should be better for your eyes.
