how can i have 2 people use the same pc at the same time? I am doing a build for my cousins so they have to make use of a single pc but idk how to set it up so that both of them can use it at the same time in different users.
probably the final SPECS:-
cpu:- i7 11700
gpu:-3080/3070ti/3070
ram:- 16x2 gb 3200mhz/3600mhz corsair rgb ram
motherboard:- asus z590 f gaming wifi
aio:- corsair h150i elite capellix
ssd- samsung 980 1tb
hdd- 1x2tb seagate barracuda 5400rpm(for the main user)
1x1tb seagate barracuda 5400rpm(for the second user)
case:- lian li o11d xl (will not be able to use the 2 usb ports in the front that are on the bottom cuz the motherboard only has 2xusb3.2 gen 1 ports and the case has 4 usb ports in the front )
fans:- 1xiCUE SP120 RGB PRO Performance 120mm Triple Fan Kit with Lighting Node CORE
       4xsp120 rgb pro
monitor:-2 x aoc c24g1

it's technically possible to something like that using VMs. But it is going to be out of your skillset to set up and out of theirs to maintain and even turn on. That's only even if the hardware you pick is compatible. you'd probably want 2 GPUs anyway, splitting a gaming gpu for 2 VMs is a pain.

My recommendation, drop the idea of 2 users using 1 high-end pc. Just build them each an entry-level/mid-tier rig.

Linus TT have made several videos on a server capable of hosting multiple virtual machines for more than one gamer on a single machine. But I think there are even simpler ways to share a single PC between only two users with certain softwares that do not do virtualization. That's as far as I know.

Ryzen 7 5700X3D (CO -30) - AX370-Gaming 5 - 2x16GB @3600C18 - EVGA RTX 3070 8G XC3

[PBO2] CO -25/-25/-30/-30/-30/-30/-30/-30

[BIOS] Vsoc 1.1 / DRAM XMP

i5-6400 4.38GHz @1.36v (162.2 BCLK) - Z170M-Plus - 2x8GB @3244C16- Biostar RX 570 8G w/ MSI Armor cooler

[BIOS] BCLK: 162.2 (x27) / Vcore 1.35 / DRAM 3244 (XMP timings) / FCLK 1GHz (1622) / RebarUEFI patched

ROG G531GT : i7-9750H (uv) - GTX 1650 +700mem - 16+8GB @2666 - 1920x1080@145Hz (up to 172Hz) IPS panel

[Throttlestop] FIVR - Vcore -160 / Vcache -105 / iGPU+unslice -125 (IccMax 255)

i5-4690K + Z97-AR + Panram Blue DDR3 2800 2x4GB Lightsaber Blue

iMac 21.5" (late 2011) : i5-2400S - Samsung 4x4GB PC3-1333 - HD 6750M 512MB - cheap Winten SSD (MacOS High Sierra) - 1920x1080@60 LCD

Acer Z5610 "Theatre" Core 2 Quad Q9550 - 2x2GB PC3-1333 (Samsung) - 1920x1080@60Hz Touch LCD - great internal speakers

They'd need a second PC / device to connecto a VM for a second user.

I'm going to second:  Two PCs with solid specs will be 100x better and easier to maintain than one PC with good specs and a crazy setup for two people.

Also:  12th gen intel made 11th gen look /bad/.  Do not get a high-end 11th gen system today.  Buy 12th gen.

Virtual Machine technology, but you need to have 2 graphics cards to get any decent gaming performance for your cousins. You would need a bunch of other costly thingies to accomplish your needs. You should really consider if you really can't you just have 2 PC's instead, but if you just really can't, watch LTT's video their perfect couples PC, because it does give you some of the steps to your goal, linked here;

Hope this helps!

Is there a particular reason you need to go with a single system? As others have said, it'll be harder to set up and maintain and you're unlikely to save much money that way, if any.

The only thing you'd really be sharing would be CPU, motherboard and RAM. To get good performance, you'd still want two GPUs. While you can technically share a single GPU using virtualization (officially limited to workstation cards), it also means you need a much beefier GPU to get acceptable performance for two people. That's probably more expensive than just getting two mid-tier cards that would have the same performance as a 50% share of the bigger GPU.

I expect a single shared system could also easily lead to conflicts between your cousins, where one broke something (now the other is upset), is using too much space, deleted the other person's stuff, etc. And having two machines means they'll always have a backup in case one of them requires repairs.

Remember to either quote or @mention others, so they are notified of your reply

thanks for all the replies. I did bring up the idea of 2 pcs but he wasnt that interested in it. for the price of a single 3070 or 3080 u could get like 2 3050s and then a budget cpu and stuff wud be possible, lets see ig. I did look into aster software, it seemed kinda cool, might use it if we are still going for a single build. Even tho i can recommend 2 pcs and tell them that it will be cheaper than trying to run 2 users frm the same pc, at the end of the day its their choice cuz its their build and its up to them what they want so i have to provide what they want. Lets see ig. Will post it here "if " i finish the build successfully which i really hope i do. Its gonna take like 2 months cuz his dad told only to build after his exams and stuff so ye. and we have to find a proper gpu.

you could put 2 ITX builds in a single case
