Office VPN Connection Speed Issues

Hi All

 

I'm trying to figure out why working from home is so incedibly painful for my Dad. Downloading a file from the office server to a laptop at home seems to occur at a max speed of about 3Mb/s when the work UL Speed is 500Mb/s and home DL speed is 300Mb/s. Work server is accessed through OpenVPN GUI. It would appear that internet speeds aren't the issue so I suspect their hardware at work is cheap and/or from the ark but I really have no idea.

 

Is there any diagnostics I can run from home? I can probably also get access to the hardware at work but where would I start looking? 

 

I imagine this is a pretty big and open ended question so any help would be greatly appreciated.

Is there an IT Team for your dad's workplace you can report the issue to? You shouldn't be messing around with this stuff especially if you're outside of the company.
