DNS Suffix showing wrong domain

Hi All,

 

I have an issue with my DNS Suffix, it's connecting to the incorrect domain. As you can see in the picture, it should Alphacerts.com but it's showing as learntotechsolutions.com.

 

Not sure what's wrong, someone help.

Check your PTR record, do a nslookup [ip address] of your computer and see what it comes back as.

 

Also why are you handing out multiple DNS suffix lists? You shouldn't need or really do that.

I have 3 domains, all done via group policy.

You don't need to add them to your suffix list though, only reason for that is if you don't want to fully qualify server/resource names. The Suffix list only purpose is to jam on to the end of DNS queries without a dot at the end each suffix if a DNS result is not returned from the search without the suffix first.

 

So if nslookup linustechtips.com does not resolve then it'll query linustechtips.com.alphacerts.com then linustechtips.com.learntotechsolutions.com then linustechtips.com.ssl-certs.uk, assume none of these return a query result so just example sake.

 

The only DNS suffix you really ever want list is you actual local Active Directory domain that your computers and user accounts belong to, anything else should be FQDN and setup DNS zones or forwarders.

 

Anyway run that nslookup command I suggest, I'm betting it'll resolve back to the domain Windows is showing.
