Can an EVGA 450w bronze rated psu handle a GTX 1650?

Tashipirin

Hey guys, I'm recently upgrading my computer and I was wondering if my power supply can handle a GTX 1650, my PC specs are:

I7-3770 (no OC)

16GB Ram dual channel 1600mhz (no OC)

3 120mm Antec fans (molex)

Cooler Master I71C CPU Cooler

EVGA 450W Bronze Rated PSU

SATA SSD 120GB Patriot Viper

Seagate 1TB HDD 7.2K SATA

Probably, but I wouldn't recommend running it long-term.

I ran an overclocked Ryzen 5 1600 and an overclocked GTX 780 on a Corsair CX550M and it did fine at full load, but I'd be a little more wary with a 450W unit.

I don't see why not, the card should only pull 75W max.

The GTX 1650 is only 75W, I don't see how its going to remotely stress a 450W PSU.

I think a full rebuild is in order. Save your money. Don't get a 1650. Waste of a card for the price. Get a 12400/b660 and use the integrated graphics until you can get a 3060 or 3060ti for MSRP. Also, 450w is nothing these days. I'd get at least 750w. Your cpu is going to bottleneck any modern decent gpu pretty badly.

Should be fine. The GTX 1650 does not consume much power.

Also there's half a dozen different "EVGA 450W Bronze rated" power supplies. B, BA, BR, BV, BT, B3, B5. It does help to list which model you have as some are better than others. I can see from your previous post that it's a EVGA BR 450W which iirc is one of the better ones.

Hi there!

Your EVGA 450W Power supply should be able to handle it just fine.

Best of luck with your new GTX 1650!

It's good advice in my opinion. A 12400/B660 isn't that expensive and the igpu isn't too bad either. DDR4 ram is like $50. Why bother upgrading a 10 year old system with a $250 card that might buy you a year or two until you need a whole new build? The 12400 is like 100000000% better than the 3770. And I am not saying to get a $500-$700 card. The 3060ti is $399. That's "only" $150 more than the 1650 for a card that's over twice as fast. OP obviously has some $ saved up for the upgrade. Why not get a better upgrade that will be more meaningful for a longer time? If he sold his 3770/board/ram and bought a 12400/B660/ddr4, I doubt it would be any more money than not selling them and grabbing the 1650. Maybe 50-100 bucks MAX depending on how much he sold them for. Everyone is entitled to their opinion. In my opinion, upgrading an antiquated system with a card that is antiquated already makes ZERO sense. If you don't want to do a whole new build, then just save your money for gas or something. Or even get an Xbox Series S for the $279 they are on sale for. The 1650 just isn't a good experience. Let alone with that old of a system.

Yeah it's the BR, I'm sorry for not putting that in the title, I finally got the mobo, cpu, fans and ram, I only need to upgrade my GPU, but I don't have the money for another, motherboard, cpu, and ram tho.

I saw the GTX 1050TI in 230$ and a GTX 1650 in Amazon in 250$

The 3060 is $329 too, btw. Just 80 bucks more than 1650. MSRP is a few months away from being a reality (for the lower end skus, not 3080) with the current trending prices.

I assumed you've had the 3770 since it's release in 2012. You just got it? Hopefully you didn't spend more than $100 for that whole combo. For $100, you could get the i3 12100f which is also tremendously better/more power efficient than the 3770

In the short term, the 1650 does offer more performance, we dont know for how long they want to keep the system for.

I got the I7 3770 since 2021 from a Optiplex that my father gifted me, but the problem is that I can not upgrade my system so much since things are expensive (Venezuela), The 16gb of ram camed with the mobo from the Optiplex and the HDD too.

It would have helped to know you were from Venezuela. All the prices I quoted are probably way off then. The 3770 is still a fast cpu and can handle any modern game without too much issue. How much is the 3060 in your country? The 1650 isn't bad but the 3060 is over double as fast for only $80 more in theory. I just think that card is a bad value.

If you want to keep it for 5-6 years, I would get an xbox series S. The new consoles have 8 cores and I am afraid a 4 core cpu will be extremely outdated and below minimum spec by then. By then, the NEXT gen of consoles will be out with a likely 12-16 performance cores and Angstrom level processes.

The cheapest 3060 on newegg is $469 (most around $500-$600 range). The cheapest 3060Ti I can see is $569 (most around the $600-$750 range). Don't give me "But wait until it's at MSRP" argument because A) you can't guarantee it will ever happen, and B) GTX 1650 MSRP is only $149 which ruins your whole "only $80 more" argument when the MSRPs are $180 - $250 more, more than double the MSRP of the 1650.

Here's the price range of what your suggestions would cost, going with the absolute cheapest GPU option (add another $100+ if going with the 3060ti):

PCPartPicker Part List: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/bCqhtn

CPU: Intel Core i5-12400 2.5 GHz 6-Core Processor  ($193.99 @ Newegg)
Motherboard: ASRock B660 Steel Legend ATX LGA1700 Motherboard  ($159.99 @ Newegg)
Memory: Corsair Vengeance LPX 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR4-3600 CL16 Memory  ($87.99 @ Amazon)
Video Card: MSI GeForce RTX 3060 12 GB VENTUS 2X Video Card  ($469.99 @ Newegg)
Power Supply: Corsair RMx (2021) 850 W 80+ Gold Certified Fully Modular ATX Power Supply  ($134.99 @ Amazon)
Total: $1046.95

So instead of buying a 1650 to upgrade their existing system you are telling them to spend over $1000 to build an entirely new computer because it will perform better... Yeah... It would perform better... But so would spending $3k on a system with an RTX 3080 and 12700k but that's completely pointless if they only have $200 to spend. You also don't even know what their expectations are. If the only ever play League of Legends and Rocket League with a 1080p monitor then a 1650 would be way more than they'd ever need. Not everybody is playing Cyberpunk 2077 at 4k with ultra settings.

I can see your point. It would end up being more expensive overall. I just don't think it's outside the realm of possibility that 3060s get to that $329 price soon. Given the 1650 is $250 and a tremendously bad value at that price, if he waits until that price to get down he can save $1 or less a day and afford it by then for legitimately double the frame rates. I just don't think anybody should get a 1650.

How much is the 3060 in your country? The 1650 isn't bad but the 3060 is over double as fast for only $80 more in theory. I just think that card is a bad value.

I saw the GTX 1650 in my country in 450-600$ too

With little difference in price I would choose the 1650 over the 1050ti. Though keep an eye out for some second hand cards that might be a bit cheaper. 1060 6GB or RX 580 8GB would be good choices and you might be able to get them around the same or slightly less. I have no idea what the market is like in Venezuela so you'll have to keep an eye out for any local deals that becomes available.

I just don't think anybody should get a 1650.

If that's the case then just say that. "I don't think the 1650 is good value, maybe check out some 2nd hand cards in the same price range instead to see if you can get something that performs better"

I don't think they have an Ebay equivalent in Venezuela, but absolutely. A used 1070/1060/980ti 580/480 etc. would be terrific for that price if he can find one.

even a 970 would be way better than the 1650, but I dont know how it would go together with the 450w psu.

Doing some quick calculations, it would be like 120w under the 450w 12v rail limit at full load

Hey guys, I'm recently upgrading my computer and I was wondering if my power supply can handle a GTX 1650, my PC specs are:

I7-3770 (no OC)

16GB Ram dual channel 1600mhz (no OC)

3 120mm Antec fans (molex)

Cooler Master I71C CPU Cooler

EVGA 450W Bronze Rated PSU

SATA SSD 120GB Patriot Viper

Seagate 1TB HDD 7.2K SATA

Definitely. However, I'd see if you could get a 1650 super since they seem to be similar prices on ebay, and I've seen some rx 480 and rx 580s on ebay for less than $250. all of those cards have slightly more performance. You might have issues with a 580 because of your psu but my brother runs one on a sub 500w psu just fine with a 4770. I'd say you likely will be fine.

Also, you say you aren't overclocking. If your board supports it, make sure you have the xmp profile enabled.
