Budget (including currency): around 1300€

Country: Germany

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Different games from AAA to indie games. Mostly want to play newer AAA games with stable fps. Maybe some streaming later.

Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc):

My current build looks like this:

  • Mainboard: ASRock Z170 Gaming K4/D3
  • CPU: i5-6600k (not OC)
  • CPU cooler: Alpenföhn CPU cooler (don't know the exact model anymore)
  • GTX 1070 (Palit Super JetStream)
  • 16GB (2x8) DDR3 1600mHz
  • 256 GB SSD (mostly for OS)
  • 1TB HDD (getting kinda old and slow).
  • Monitor:
    • iiyama G-Master GE2488HS
    • LG Flatron E2240T

While gaming my CPU is at 100% most of the time. At games like Battlefield 1 I get around 40-50 fps with drops here and there.

At first I was looking at the Ryzen 7 5800X combined with an AIO like the ARCTIC Liquid Freezer II 240 or NZXT Kraken X53, for the looks mostly, but not quite sure about it now.

These are the parts that I currently would pick, after reading some recommendations here:

https://de.pcpartpicker.com/list/2gnb8r

I will also use my GTX 1070 until the GPU prices sink a little bit more.

Also, what difference is there, if I put an extra fan at the back of the Noctua NH-D15 instead of the front? Would it even fit like that in the Corsair 4000D Airflow?

Thanks for the help in advance!

Honestly, that looks like a solid build, congrats!

The only thing that I would point out is that I think this case only has 2 fans, so maybe consider adding one or two intakes because the hardware can get very hot.

There isn't a lot of difference in fan positioning of the Noctua NH-D15 in this config, as far as I am aware.

You dont need top exhaust that just blows out the intaked air before it reaches cpu or gpu cooler. 12700 is much better value than 5900X now. You could wait for 5800x3d if you want an amd system.

I am still considering the Noctua NH-D15 combination with the Corsair Vengeance Pro RGB SL RAM. Since the Noctua NH-D15 is such a large cooler, it will cover all of the RAM in a "normal" setup, making the RGB RAM useless from an aesthetic perspective. Now I've seen the Noctua NH-U12A, which is smaller and doesn't seem to cover the RAM (which would show the RGB light of the RAM). But how does the performance of the Noctua NH-U12A compare to the NH-D15? Does it keep a Ryzen 5900X cool enough, even when overclocked later?

No reason to go for Noctua at least on am4. AK620 does better.
