Please help? Potential GPU or PSU issue?

Okay, I mean you could tear the whole thing apart and put it together and just do that as a test, but don't think it's worth it to be honest

If the GPU is the problem I might as well to be honest.

The bigger 3000 series cards won’t fit in my case anyway and things like the RAM, PSU, SSDs can all be moved from one system to another.

So if the GPU is the issue I am most likely going to be getting a new case, motherboard and CPU as well.

I meant tear the PC apart, built it up again.

What's wrong about the CPU, mobo?

If they'll do it performance to performance, you'll get a 3070 or a 3070Ti

I know EVGA are good at warranty.

I mean if an expert is error minded. He can find a supposed error in absolutely everything.

But contact them and explain everything and check if an RMA is possible

Well it’s not so much by performance. It’s by retail price I believe. Afterall technology advances really fast sometimes so giving someone equal performance technology years later is a bit of a frowned upon thing to do. Because the price is what someone actually has invested into the product.

In terms of price it would be the 3080 Ti or 3080.

By MSRP the 3080 is the replacement I think, a 3080Ti can be up to 1500 now

Yeah the 3080 sounds about right. I’m not as familiar with the 3000 series specs and prices because I expected my 2080 Ti to be with me until at least 2024 when I planned to replace it.

Which is another thing to remember. If I have to send it in to EVGA for an RMA it means that something went wrong on their end. At least if we assume what I am based on my experience which is that the problem was not my fault in any way.

I consider myself pretty OCD about taking good care of my PC and I always keep HWM up to check min & max temps of my components after every session and I never saw my GPU temp go above 80C. Even after a long heavy demanding gaming session it peaked at about 78C.

The reason I say this is because I can’t think of any possible way that I damaged the GPU and if that’s true it means the goof was on EVGAs end. Usually when companies make a goof they tend to be very generous with fixing it.

For example providing a 3080 instead of a 3070 Ti as a replacement even if it’s is slightly better. They know I had to go through this headache and frustration and lack of ability to use my PC.

Most companies have an excellent reputation for repair. When my 3070 died from drawing an excess of 600W for 10 seconds than killed itself. I just got a new one, and they repaired the other and shipped it back because it was clearly their fault.

If the whole RMA process goes through you'll get an identical card, or they have that is replaceable, that is the equal performance or money as compensation.

Fingers crossed this gets sorted out without too much cost on my end. :-/

Im going to try the 970 tomorrow and if it still has issues I’ll try the 750W PSU.

I’ve never had anything like this happen before.

Sometimes shipping/toll can be on you, and if it's an RMA they often cover the whole price for you

I’m running an 8700K on an MSI MEG z390 ACE motherboard. It’s not a tippity top end motherboard but according to the tier list on the motherboard forum it’s in the A tier which is above average.

The CPU is old though. It was in the PC I had before I built this PC that I am having trouble with now.

5 GHz overclocked - 6 cores/12 threads with a 280mm AIO.

8th gen intel is still pretty good, so is the z390

Thought the 8700K was 8core but guess that was 9th gen

Yeah that’s the 9th Gen.

Btw I tried my brother’s 970 GTX today to see if it would boot up with my 2080 Ti removed and I’m still having issues :(.

Now I’m wondering if it’s a PSU or mobo issue.

Yeah I think that might be it.

I’m thinking of just building a new PC at this point and re-using as many old parts as possible since a lot of them like the RAM, PSU and SSDs are still pretty up to date and that should save me some money.

Well darn. I didn’t expect this to happen so quickly. I expected it to die eventually but not so soon.

Sorry for the delay in responding this has just become a nightmare I think it might be the GPU so I’m thinking of sending it in under warranty.

Nice, just contact the manufacturer and seller for their recommendations of what to do

But don’t I have to make sure it’s the GPU that is the problem?

What if I send it in to EVGA and they say:

“We tested it on our test benches and it’s operating just fine.”

Don’t I have to pay a fee or something?

That's a gray area to be honest, it all comes down to the company. I've sent what I thought was defect cards. They were tested. And they sent it back with a shipping fee of like 10$

But it could be they want a pay for it. But I would say it's worth it to go through that if it for example can show that the motherboard was broken. So that can be replaced etc.
