I7 12700

Indian pc builder
Go to solution Solved by dizmo,

The U12 is fine, the other things you mentioned are overkill. There's probably cheaper coolers that perform just as well, if not better.

Assuming I have an I 7 12 700k

, what cooler would be adequate for it(other than the stock ) I am looking at all types of coolers would a 240 mm aio do also would the nh-d15 be over kill and I should go for a u12 or   Do I need a 360 mm aio? ( assuming average ambients of 26 degrees centigrade  ( that is idk how many Fahrenheit, I think that Celsius is more useful )

Imagine everything i have written in a Linus Voice/ linus tone (Spock live long and prosper gif here ,idk why tho, i guess i just want to say that i like star trek and am waiting for new seasons of the ongoing shows), But seriously, a lot of what i type only makes sense when said in a Linus tone from an older ltt video (circa 2017-2019 & now 2024-onwards) basically before he got a beard and a lot of it should make sense even in a Linus with a beard face.

also note as per the latest typing test on my laptop, my accuracy is 69%

I'm not weird/creepy, I'm just observant I have ADHD and am not on any meds for it.

12700 non-K, you don't need a ton of cooling. I'd personally use the stock cooler unless you end up with issues. If you do, I'd go for the Arctic Freezer X34, since again that chip doesn't need a ton of cooling, it's clocked so low at the base clock that it does run relatively cool, and spending more than $30 doesn't really make a ton of sense since more cooling =/= better cooling.

12700K, NH-D15 at the minimum, that CPU runs hot, and better cooling does mean better performance. If you want to overclock it, a 360mm AIO is a good idea.

Why are you looking to change the cooler? If it’s not a “k” SKU part, it doesn’t need much cooling beyond stock.

Also just for future info, yes celcius is more useful for PC parts, but if you wanted to do the unit conversion, google can easily do it for you; just google “26c to f” and it’ll tell you the degrees in f. Or you could google the formula and do the math yourself, just so you know what the conversion is 🙂

The 12700 can go up to 180W, while the 12700K goes to 190W, both are the default boost number.

Anyway an Arctic Freezer 34 eSports(Duo) probably can keep either below throttling temps, even though it would be hot, something like the Scythe Fuma 2 or similar would be ideal.

12700 does have a turbo timer though, so it just needs to survive 47 seconds at the 180w TDP then it will drop down to 65w.

That depends on the motherboard, some B660 MBs and most Z690 will make it act like the "K" parts where PL1=PL2=180W by default. Also I wouldn't really recommend to limit the 12700 to 65W, limited to that it's barely faster than the 5800X in MT workloads, while if you let it boost and cool it properly, it's as fast as the 5900X.

I know the formula

c/5=F-32/9

im saying that one I don’t think Fahrenheit should exist

2 the people who use Fahrenheit should do the math themselves

So a 2 fan aio or a single tower cooler?

I have mentioned arctic freezer 34 with one fan and i get around 60c above ambient in cinebench r23 (83-85c absolute). It's pulling 165w constant, without time limit. Basically, its a barelly slower than 12700k.
