Depends on the games you run. I ran a 1080 on 1440p ultrawide without issues. Since you're already running 1440 do you have VRAM issues currently with the 1080?

Yeah, I know. Without any games/workload listed it's hard to say for sure if you will have any issues, hence why I asked if you currently find yourself using close to 8 GB.

8GB is still fine for now for 1440p, but 3-4 years down the road it's likely to be more of a risk with newer games. Can't say for sure though. 6700xt would be the "safer" option if you're not dedicated to Nvidia or AMD.

I'm using a 3070 8GB on 4k. There isn't anything I've been unable to run on it, and I don't expect that to change within its reasonable working life. However, if games at highest settings start to consistently use more than 8GB, then it means you may have to optimise some settings to keep usage below that and keep performance up. Games are not going to absolutely require more than 8GB for a long time as it would nuke a large portion of the PC gaming market. The question is what quality you get at 8GB?

I play at 3840x2160 with an 8GB card. Occasionally I may have to turn a setting or two down from extreme to ultra. In a couple of years from now? Not sure..
