How do I boot to a flash drive on an AM3 board?

Model is a Gigabyte ma785gmt-ud2h.

 

I'm trying to boot into the install media in order to install the driver for the SATA controller, but I couldn't get it to work even with usb-hdd as first boot priority. I assume I'm using the wrong type of installer? How am I supposed to proceed?

I only have experience with uefi.

UEFI didn't exist back then, need an MBR/BIOS installer.
