transfer multi file to portable hdd will make it live shorter?

bidenkim

Yes, it will, but not considerably. On an SSD? Maybe, but usually not on a hard drive as they have pretty high write endurance.

Always depends on how large the “multi files” is/are and how many times they’re being written to the drive.

I am getting pretty fucking sick and tired of the "watch something else" responses. It's such a cop out answer because you could say that about basically anything, and it doesn't address the actual complaints. People use it as some kind of card they pull when they can't actually respond to the criticism raised but they still feel like they need to defend some company/person. If you don't like this thread then stop reading it. See how stupid it is? It's basically like telling someone "shut the fuck up". It's not a clever responsive, it doesn't address anything said, and it is rude.

ON a mechanical drive, it will slow the overall copy time considerably because the drive head is constantly going back and forth on the platters, generating excess heat and wear on the drive. for big file transfers i use FastCopy as it is miles ahead of windows file transfer especially when it comes to lots of really small files. For really big stuff on a mechanical drive, i typically use 7zip, but set the compression level to store, so it doesnt actually compress anything to get the best transfer times, but depending on what you are archiving with 7zip compression will either bring a big benefit, or no benefit at all, it depends on how fast the storage and cpu are.
