does anyone know of a custom cooling setup for a gpu?(not watercooled)

pipps17

so when i built my pc it was about 3 months before the nvidea 3000 series launched so i got a 2070 so it would be easy to resell and i could upgrade to a 3070 or 3080 but well i couldent get one.

so the gpu i got was cheep with a terrible cooler on it so was wondering if there was any custom stuff that i can fit on it to replace the cooler as its noisy and makes a ratteling noise and isnt great at cooling the card. i had a look at the NZXT kraken g12 but its for the 1000 series and im not sure if it will work natively so was wondering if anyone knew of anything else, i cant afford to do a full custom loop so im looking more for a new set of fans and a better heatsink, i have space for a full length cooler but its a 2 fan card as it is now. the card is a gigabyte rtx 2070 windforce 2.

little more info on it:

temps: tops at 82 with a slight undervolt

noise: when the fan is going above about 50% it rattles like the vibrations from the fans are going through the heat spreader.

How about replacing the rattling fan?

Which 2070 do you have exactly, the founders edition?

Something like these should work. Pretty sure you can get a bracket for the 2070 for each of these.

the raijintek morpheus II could work but the other isnt available in the uk.

thanks for the sugestion.

i have the gigabyte rtx 2070 windforce 2.

from my research its not the fans thats the issue and instead its how there mounted because the plastic backing is pressed up against the heatsink so when the fans are running it rattles the plastic against the metal.

You can remove the fans and shroud and slap a pair of Noctua (or other) 120mm fans like this

https://www.reddit.com/r/Noctua/comments/qegzfj/my_geforce_rtx_2070_super_noctua_edition_graphics/

System : AMD R9  7950X3D CPU/ Asus ROG STRIX X670E-E board/ 2x32GB G-Skill Trident Z Neo 6000CL30 RAM ASUS TUF Gaming AMD Radeon RX 7900 XTX OC Edition GPU/ Phanteks P600S case /  Thermalright Peerless Assassin 120 cooler (with 2xArctic P12 Max fans) /  2TB WD SN850 NVme + 2TB Crucial T500  NVme  + 4TB Toshiba X300 HDD / Corsair RM850x PSU

Alienware AW3420DW 34" 120Hz 3440x1440p monitor / Logitech G915TKL keyboard (wireless) / Logitech G PRO X Superlight mouse / Audeze Maxwell headphones

ye could give it a go but the card is a fair bit smaller than the one you posted and i think i would only be able to get 1 fan on it, could try a couple of 80mm's i guess but i think i might go with one of the custom coolers as idle it sits at around 52c

Sure you can get a GPU watercooling, Alphacool has blocks for most 2070 models, but imo that's too expensive for such a card, as you'll need at least the block, a pump, reservoir and tubing, that's more than $250...

just wanna say don't do anything to do fan cables (unless you want to), like in the guide @PDifolcodid. There's absolutely no need to connect the fans to the GPU. just connect them to the motherboard and run them fixed.

Or alternatively control their speed base on GPU temps with payed Argus Monitor, or free FanCtrl (from github), or FanControl (from github, but not sure if it'll work).

The most cost-effective fan that does the job is Arctic Cooling F9 (92mm). Thermalright new 92mm is awesome, and so are oldschool Blacknoise BlackSilent. Noctua is the option with the most performance/lower noise, but more expensive.

And just Zip-tie away

I fully agree

BTW FanControl works perfectly and is often updated, It's just perfect to set any mobo fan header PWM control to GPU temp in this use case, I'm using it with my GPU (watercooled) rad fans
