Help! Upgraded CPU now RAM wont run at rated speeds via XMP

Upgraded CPU from Ryzen 5 3600X to Ryzen 9 5900X.

Now the RAM when turning on XMP to 3600 it doesnt post, only can get it up to 3400hz, any higher it fails to post or get into windows. It tries to post for the set tries then reboots saying memory overclock failed load bios defaults. I have tried bumping the ram voltage up when going to 3600 but that didnt seem to change anything.

System details are:

CPU:From Ryzen 5 3600X to Ryzen 5900X
Memory: 4*8g = 32GB G.skill Sniper DDR4 3600Mhz CL19-20-20-40 1.35V
Motherboard: MSI B450 Tomahawk Max BIOS v3.B (only newer one is beta version)
Graphics: Nvidia GeForce GTX 970 🙁 waiting for 3080s to drop in price
Boot drive: M.2 Samsung Pro 970 500GB
Windows 10 64 bit

CPU has Noctua cooler on it so temp isnt an issue. RAM was running XMP fine with old CPU. What else can i try?

By looking up your motherboard's specs, DDR4 3600Mhz seems like it is not supported on XMP mode. I suggest that you rather try setting your RAM speed and timings manually. Voltage should be kept at 1.35V.

Your motherboard BIOS has an updated current version to 7C02v3C dated January 18, 2022.

It worked fine with the 3600X,So why would the RAM suddenly be the issue after a CPU upgrade?

I will tell you the answer: The issue is not the RAM,but the memory controller on the CPU.

So the new CPU is the issue.you can try overvolting the IMC (Integrated Memory Controller) but it can degrade the IMC faster if the voltage is too high.

Your Bios is 38 (not on the site, was a beta I think) or 3B?

Try r-seating your RAM.

What's the second XMP profile, 3466? tried that?

I also experienced some weird stuff where the pc wouldn't turn on after installing cpu. I.e. no power but unplugged and replugged in psu connectors and seems to be working now. Also the power supply is a Thermaltake toughpower gold 850w

Maybe the board doesn't read the XMP-s right.

As I've said, reseat the RAM. Also, you might want to reseat the CPU too (and check your CPU pins).

Are the 4 sticky from the same pack? Or were they purchased separately?

Technically it's not faulty, but it means that you lost the silicon lottery.

Try with 2 sticks of RAM in dual channel and enable XMP at 3600MHz,

If it works then the issue is the IMC.

Try installing 2 ram sticks on the first set of the dual channel slots. Then update your BIOS. Your cpu should actually be supported since the earlier BIOS. But we are now trying to address your RAM sticks' compatibility.

And also, what are your G.Skill RAM sticks model? I'll just look it up quickly as well.

Looking up your RAM based from the initial details yo mentioned above. If it is the Sniper X model, I think it only supports Intel CPUs. Not unless I am wrong in looking up the exact model. Let's see once you sent your exact G.Skill RAM model. Then the next question would be: How did it work with your Ryzen 5 3600X before?

2 sets of 2. So each channel is matched

Try switching up the ram sticks in the slots.

Also, Ryzen dram calculator.

I suggest for you to get RAM sticks that are compatible with your processor and motherboard. As I mentioned earlier in this page trail, that I think that your RAM sticks only supports Intel cpu. G.Skill's QVL confirms it below:

You can return it to the store and buy another one and hope that the new CPU will fare better in the silicon lottery.

This proves that the problem is indeed the memory controller on the CPU as i suspected.

CPU NB/SoC Voltage is what you need to change,

The maximum safe voltage is 1.2V.

Put it to 1.1 i don't really get overclocking nuances but it is stable. Should i be putting lower voltage and increasing slowly till its stable
