How To Do This With The Start Menu?

Broth3rz

I want to add Navigation just like it is in this image. I have W10.

They have 3 drives, and they have folders.

By pinning apps to the start menu and taking the tine to group them together.

Files and Drivers can also be pinned to start menu from right clicking on them

As for hiding the a-z list of apps. Click Start > Settings > search "Start Settings" > Toggle show app list in menu

Turns out the Pin To Start wasn't an option in the right-click menu. I had to do this to the registry:

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Folder\shellex\ContextMenuHandlers\PintoStartScreen]
@="{470C0EBD-5D73-4d58-9CED-E91E22E23282}"

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\exefile\shellex\ContextMenuHandlers\PintoStartScreen]
@="{470C0EBD-5D73-4d58-9CED-E91E22E23282}"

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer]
"NoChangeStartMenu"=-

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer]
"NoChangeStartMenu"=-

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Explorer]
"LockedStartLayout"=-

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Explorer]
"LockedStartLayout"=-

It works now... guess that's nice to know... 😐

you can pin any apps to the start menu if you make a shortcut , add it to desktop , then right click > pin to start… (and then move the shorcuts to a folder so they dont clutter your desktop) there was no need to potentially mess up your registry.

That was my issue though... there is no PinToStart, the option was completely gone when right clicking. No matter if it was real icons, shortcuts, etc. Dragging didn't work, nothing. That registry worked perfect.

But how do you change the color of ONE tile? I got one that's red when everything else is blue. So it kinda sticks out..

Also I'm getting this:

The number 2 will NEVER go away.. it doesn't matter if I open the list, open the 'new' program, it just keeps saying 2. "Recently Added" is turned off in the Start Menu settings... So...?

well i just know if you move a shortcut  to desktop it should  work, no dragging, no copying, just move (aka cut and paste)

if that really didnt work something is probably wrong with your windows install. I mean sure its great that fix worked but there might be more issues  down the line with that.

I dont think you can , the colors depend on the theme color you chose, at least in my version of windows.

For the record I have zero non blue tiles in "pinned tiles" but tons in "all apps" doesnt bother me much as"pinned tiles" is the first thing that opens anyway.

you should check again, maybe its something hidden in a folder (happened to me)

or turn recently added on and off see if that fixes it?

I did a new install and everything seems fine..I have an idea of why the PinToStart was messing up, all good now though.
