Can I still use my HDD even if the casing is open?

is it the actual hdd that cracked open? or an external casing that cracked open? either way, not ideal, but if the metal hdd opened up, i would consider replacing it, and back up any important files from it.

Hello. I was about to back up a few folders to a hard drive but, the one I use has a gap in the casing. Presumably due to a drop or something. I was concerned about using it. It isn't a helium drive or anything fancy. I snapped the case back together and I am still concerened. So can I still use the hard drive or should I be more concered about the drive platter shattering?
