Hey guys, i'm looking for a new ultrawide monitor. But, a 34 inch ultrawide feels a bit small for "ultrawide" but 49 inches is then again, overkill. Is there anything in between? or is 34 inches bigger than i'd expect? Never seen an ultrawide in person sadly.

The 34's are usually 3440x1440. A step up from those are the current ~38" 3840x1600's.

I've owned an Asus PG348Q (3440x1440@100Hz) now since 2017 and absolutely adore it, however i'm starting to look for an upgrade.

On my short list, because, I think the 49" 32:9 superwide G9 things are ridiculous, are the new crop of 38" 3840x1600 panels.

On sale regularly is the Alienware AW3821DW which I may end up with but my heart is set on the LG 38GL950G-B, however its significatnly more expensive.

I still think 21:9 makes the most sense for a mix of gaming and media consumption. Watching wide format media and it nearly completely fill the screen with no black bars feels great.

I don't think someone else can answer for you on a question of worth...

Their worth it to me and I'll never go back to 16x9.

34" is the perfect size for 3440x1440 ultrawides imo. This basically results in the same height as a 27" 1440p monitor but with the extra width.

There are 38" 3840x1600 ones, but they're extremely expensive.

The Gigabyte M34WQ is a good choice. It's not the best, but better than most similarly priced VA options.

If someone did not use reason to reach their conclusion in the first place, you cannot use reason to convince them otherwise.

It's bigger than you think. The 34" is measured on the diagonal of course, so it's roughly size of 27” monitor on the vertical, but half again on the horizontal. For a display 2 feet from your face, it's a good size. A 49" is equivalent to halving one and half 32" displays.

This website is your best friend when you are shopping for a new panel and aren't sure about size.

http://www.displaywars.com/34-inch-21x9-vs-49-inch-d{32x9}

As you can see, the 34" ultrawide is pretty much the same vertical as a 49" super ultrawide.

Personally, I detest super-ultrawides, and anything below 15" vertical feels like a prison window.  I might settle for a 21:9, but I generally prefer 16:9.  I hate missing the vertical.  I shouldn't have to put monitors in portrait mode to get 20" of vertical.

That's why I will be pre-ordering the Odyssey Ark; it's essentially a 49" SUW, but with a proper height to it.
