You need to take a step back and figure out what you're doing before you can ask a question, or ask a broader question like 'I have x amount of currency, what is the best bang for the buck with crypto'.  Even that though will probably end with what Blue4130 said though I disagree that you're too late.  You're just getting close to a crossroad with gpu mining and we're not sure what's going to happen.

If I were you, assuming you have a bunch of money, just invest in crypto if you believe in it.  If you want to try to mine, then work out a general plan and try to get ahold of a card or two so you can get your feet wet and understand a bit more about what you're up against.  There are plenty of sites where you can try to figure out profits like nice hashes calculator or whattomine.com.

U know what, bitcoin is low right now, I’ll buy some instead if mining, EVEN THOUGH I ALREADY INVEST IN CRYPTO AND MADE A TON OF MONEY EGEN BITCOIN PRICE DROPPED which I have lying around, and I already have a 3090 and a 12900k pc that I built, so yeah, u knowvwhat, I’ll start investing in ethereum. BUying bitcoin seems better than mining it If what guys are saying is to be believed

First, mods I am not sure if this is the correct subforum, If not pls move it to the correct one. Next, I am looking for the perfect configuration for a server that can be scaled up to datacenter level to mine cryptocurrency with gpus from nivida, any idea about what specs the servers should be? Assuming I can keep the ambient temperature at 27 degrees c and excluding the ongoing cost of power and other things, what would it cost me per server cabinet to build it full of say 8 gpu ?, which graphics cards should I get , so like what gpus, cpu etc, should I use ASICS? what currency should I mine to break even the fastest? Pls debate and help here

Imagine everything i have written in a Linus Voice/ linus tone (Spock live long and prosper gif here ,idk why tho, i guess i just want to say that i like star trek and am waiting for new seasons of the ongoing shows), But seriously, a lot of what i type only makes sense when said in a Linus tone from an older ltt video (circa 2017-2019 & now 2024-onwards) basically before he got a beard and a lot of it should make sense even in a Linus with a beard face.

also note as per the latest typing test on my laptop, my accuracy is 69%

I'm not weird/creepy, I'm just observant I have ADHD and am not on any meds for it because I don't want to and don't need to be on meds. i also may just be depressed. If you find other things around you depressing, are you depressed or are you surrounded by depressing things?

Give me a few seconds to stop laughing...

What you're asking is kinda dumb and just goes to show how little you have researched.

Datacenter video cards are often poor choices for mining, because they're "optimized" for floating point operations and things that don't have anything to do with mining ethereum and other coins.  Ethereum mining is about doing lots and lots of basic integer operations, very fast video card ram and lots of ram (4 GB or more).

Datacenter video cards are expensive and have very poor resale value, so why would you even make the investment - people are buying gaming video cards because they know when the price of coins go down or the cards are no longer efficient (worth the electricity they use), they can just resell them to gamers and recover some of their money.

As for what you'd need ... you'd need motherboards with lots of pci-e slots, you'd need 1000-1600w power supplies (assume 100-150w per video card, so 6 cards per system and a 1200-1600w power supply would be more sensible ... you'd need good cooling to dissipate that 1000w of heat the 6 video cards would produce and you'd need lots of power circuits to power so many servers with so many video cards

If you plan on having datacenter servers, they make dual cpu motherboards with 8+ pci-e slots, but for EPYC / Xeon processors... it's too expensive if all you're gonna do is mine.  It's much cheaper to use motherboards with 4-5 pci-e slots and a cheap 50$ CPU and 4-8 GB of memory

Also, you're late, much too late... such investment now would be waste of money.  They plan on moving Ethereum from mining to proof of stake ... it could be 6 months, could be 1 year, could be 2-3 years ... you would need more than a year to recover your investment if you go with datacenter video cards.

If you plan to use datacenter cards because gaming cards are too expensive ...

Whoever does mining at larger scale doesn't give a crap whether it's "gaming video card" or whatever, they buy the most profitable cards, best hash rate for the power consumed, as that's the profit... they buy pallets of cards directly from distributors they don't buy the cards at these very inflated prices.

To add to the issues with this question, you never specified what size the racks you'd like are, storage requirements, or any other uses. would you plan to use this for anything other than mining, like as a storage server, vm hosting etc.?

please tag me for a response, It's really hard to keep tabs on every thread I reply to. thanks!!

Very well, I admit i am inexperienced in terms of mining crypto, tell me what graphics card, should I buy what currency should I mine and what hardware should I put in my 4U servers which is what I am planning with 70 units of space a rack and say 20 racks, and free renewable electricity ( don’t ask how)

I’m afraid only mining, in a data center. Storage is not a priority, I’ll probably just stick the cheapest ssd I can get my hands on in there. No vm hosting

Take the money you have set aside for this and invest it in the stock market. Skip trying to start a large mining operation, you are too late to the game.

It's really up to you.  If I were in your shoes I'd invest my money in crypto because as you point out everything is pretty cheap feeling right now.  Then since you have a 3090 I'd 100% give it a shot with mining.  I'd start with something simple like NiceHash which you can run on your PC without doing anything complex, work through whatever issues you run up against.  Get a feel for how to tune the card using something like Afterburner.  Read some guides and if you're feeling good and want to move forward start by trying to pick up a few extra cards and just add them into your PC.

Eventually you'll need a second PSU, a mining rack, a second mobo, ram etc... and you'll probably want to move to something like HiveOS and at that point make another post e.g. 'I have these 4 cards, trying to get a bunch of card X and I'm wondering what a good mobo/cpu combo are, what risers you suggest, what PSU and connecters should I be using'.

Right now the issue is too abstract for my mind.  We could suggest you tons of different parts but without you knowing what you need or want it's hard to suggest the right parts.

Anyway good luck and please keep us updated!  Super excited to see where you go with this!

I mean. You can't mine btc with that setup, the mining difficulty is too far for that. you'd need asics to even attempt to make any form of profit.

Depends on what scale you want. You can start with a single pc in a closet for around $1000 or you can drop millions and buy a farm.

How much money are you comfortable investing into a risky business?
