so, i am upgrading my dads old system with more ram, from 8 to 16 gigs, it has a core i5 2320, now the issue is that it runs in dual channel and i cannot find and 8 gig sticks of ddr3 which are clocked at anything less than 1600, and the mobo doesnt support xmp, so am i ok with buying 1600, in a system that can either run 1066 or 1333 according to the cpu?

will it give me the same result as ddr4 in which the dimms will just clock down to 1333?

Imagine everything i have written in a Linus Voice/ linus tone (Spock live long and prosper gif here ,idk why tho, i guess i just want to say that i like star trek and am waiting for new seasons of the ongoing shows), But seriously, a lot of what i type only makes sense when said in a Linus tone from an older ltt video (circa 2017-2019 & now 2024-onwards) basically before he got a beard and a lot of it should make sense even in a Linus with a beard face.

also note as per the latest typing test on my laptop, my accuracy is 69%

 

I'm not weird/creepy, I'm just observant I have ADHD and am not on any meds for it because I don't want to and don't need to be on meds. i also may just be depressed. If you find other things around you depressing, are you depressed or are you surrounded by depressing things?

if the cpu can support a max of 1333mhz, then it will only go to that frequency

Since you already mentioned that your processor is an Intel i5(15?) 2320 the FSB of your CPU dictates a maximum of 1333. Now, we have only one more variable here for us to conclude if your RAM sticks will just be clocked-down or not. And that would be your motherboard. It would be best if you can share the exact brand, model and version of the motherboard in this particular system of yours. Thanks.

it is a hp special for an hp compaq elite 8300 sff

i just checked the bios and it shows 4  slots (is that possible in a business tower from hp?)

my dad thinks i might somehow spoil the pc if i open it and don't replace something (he is okay with tech, not illiterate but not savvy either)

IK but I can’t do anything, speaking of which, is it possible for the bios to mislead me as to the number of slots ?
