Powered bookshelf speakers loud (buzz/static) when turned on

Hi all

Got a pair of Edifer powered bookshelf speakers, understand these might not be up to high standards but the do the job for my office pc. Just moved them to another pc in another room and when I connected them up I got a loud static buzz when I turned them on. Turned them off to check the connections the speaker wires were plugged in correctly however I’m unsure if I had the RCA connections the right way around could this cause what I experienced? 

Unplugged everything checked connections and away I went seems to be absolutely fine. Just curious if rca could cause that as I know if the speaker wires were the wrong way around it would just be running out of phase ?

So now they're just fine? If that's the case could have had a bad RCA connection which was solved by replugging.  For fun pull the RCA out of the other end and put your fingers on it, will probably sound like what you heard.  It's a grounding thing probably.

 

And I believe running speaker wires backwards would indeed just be out of phase.

 

And last note, edifier makes pretty decent products, I wouldn't turn my nose down on it.
