Kryonaut apparently scratches & degrades at 80c? Best thermal compound for 5900x?

Hey,

I put a post out a while back asking whether or not thermal grizzly's kryonaut is still the best thermal compound (for desktop cpus) and the answer was more or less what I expected 😄. Although, after digging around I found quite a few reviews / posts claiming that thermal grizzly's kryonaut has scratched the ihs of peoples cpus or the bottoms of their coolers and degrades at temps above 80c, is this a common / true problem?

Just in case the above is true, what would you recommend for a 5900x and nhd15? Ive heard nth2 is quite good; I do know that the difference in the top pastes are minimal but if there is one that is consistently slightly better than others id like to go with that xD. I should mention that price isnt a problem and the only caveat is that it cant be conductive 😄

Thanks for any help,

Lex.

Hmm, I'm not sure what you mean. So far I use Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut on my Vega64 and I don't face any issue.

But if you like, I think you can check out Corsair XTM50 Thermal paste. I use it to re-paste laptops CPU and it works okay, not sure about GPU, though.

I think Arctic M5 is a good choice, but I didn't have the chance to use it.

I apologies if my comments or post offends you in any way, or if my rage got a little too far. I'll try my best to make my post as non-offensive as much as possible.

Do you find it runs pretty hot?
I have a 5900, and while it's a lower TDP I'm wondering if the 280mm AIO will cool it sufficiently in a very small case with little other airflow.

Not sure who is feeding you that bull, but no, there's no such issues from Kryonaut. I've been using it for years on multiple CPUs and coolers with no issues.

Just remember don't buy the original kryonaut (which is gray in color), buy the new kryonaut Extreme (which is pink/red in color).

We had a few guys over at TPU that had this problem. I saw 3 or 4 threads about it. Cash was paid out I think.

I've used some various pastes (MX4, Alphacool, a couple others..), and now use NT-H2, it's better by a couple C

Didn't try TG products tho

Team RED, or Team BLUE ?, Red Pill, or Blue Pill ? That's the only choice anyone should be thinking about when it comes to pastes/TIM (Thermal Interface Material). Choose Kryonaut Extreme (fixed pump-out and longevity issues, fails Noctua NH-D15 chart, tops EK AIO chart), or Arctic MX-5 (cheaper, tops Noctua NH-D15 chart, fails EK AIO chart).xD  Either blue sparks joy, or red sparks joy.

RED VS BLUE, Don't pick GRAY, don't be a Centrist, don't balanced, don't pick bland looking Noctua NT-H1/NT-H2, Cooler Master MasterGel pro V2, Thermalright PK-3 xD It's not like they're all topping tomshardware test charts within half a degree of each other xD

Yeah, there was.

Did they have much of a problem getting reimbursed? Seen a few threads and posts where the paste has left pits as well as scratches and thermal grizzly refuses to respond.

There is actually a guy there right now with that problem. They did reimburse him but I don’t think it was for the whole amount 😄

Poor guy. He seems to be in good spirits though.

I wonder if people are getting fake kryonaut seeing how everyone I find selling it is a shady third party reseller.

Still good to know, esp consider that Kryonaut seems to be degrading in a matter of weeks! Noticed any temperature changes in comparison to the other paste you have used ? 😄

Seems as though there are a fair few people running into fake paste on Amazon. Despite this, it seems most of the people who have suffered this issue have bought it from reputable places such as OCUK and Currys. Thermal grizzly acknowledged a bad batch in early 2018 if I'm not mistaken and was unable to recall the paste as they don't use serial numbers... Most of the people initially seemed to be compensated well although as time went on people stopped receiving responses etc. To top it off, it turns out the issue is still ongoing and despite people still emailing TG etc no one has received a response (except a few that claimed that pitting on the ihs and underside of the cooler is "normal")...  To add insult to injury, TG and OCUK claimed that the paste in OCUK was the "new, good batch" yet people keep having issues.

I'm considering writing a comprehensive but condensed post to try and draw some traction to this... After a few weeks digging around, plenty of photo evidence and even some people going as far to use lab equipment to prove poor quality control I think it's time someone takes this more seriously than just a "bad batch". Sources etc will of course be provided.

@Daethz @CriSis_are you guys talking about the pink/red new Kryonaut Extreme or ?

Cause it's well known and the creator of Kryonaut mentioned himself there were problem with the original gray Kryonaut. And nobody should be buying the old Kryonaut, only the new pink one.

It was a couple C lower, but not sure if it's the paste or better pressure or application, I did it only once...
