Looking for a new CPU cooler.

Got the NH-D14 and am very satisfied with it made a 10-20 degree different under load, much larger than expected though...now my issue is that the side panel doesn't fit.

here's my rig

gigabyte Z68AP-D3

Intel I7 Lga 1155 2600K

2x4gb DDR3 ram 1333 (standard nothing special about it at all)

EVGA GTX 760 GPU

WD 1tb hdd (GreenPower)

and powering it is the OCZ ZX series 850W

the case is the Raidmax Tornado.

 

currently I'm running stock heat-sink in it and its just not cutting it. under any real load my CPU get up to 75 degrees and at that point the computer starts screaming untill I shut down and restart. I'm looking for a better cooling solution right now I'm looking at the Nactua NH-D14 but I'm not sure if there will be conflict with it sitting in the way of my ram. any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

u can get noctua nh-d14, it has plenty of clearance for ur ram..it can accomodate even g.skill ripjaws, u r only having standard ram kit, that shouldnt be a problem... :)

a Corsair's H100i would be better for this CPU if u r willing to Overclock...

As everyone else mentioned, if you are willing to pay $100 or so, I also highly recommend Corsair's H100i. It does wonders when overclocking.

 

However, the cheapest best solution is a CM Hyper 212 Evo @ ~$35.

 

But the Noctua one you mentioned would also work.

 

It really all depends on what you're wanting to spend and if you're overclocking.

If you aren't overclocking the CPU you could get a Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO. Its a very good cooler and will cool a 2600K at stock. A Noctua NH-D14 would be a great option. I don't think an H100i will fit in that case. It would fit an H50i, but the performace improvement over the Hyper 212 wouldn't be very much.

The NH-D15? I've heard that when it comes out it'll have good compatibility...

 

Or the H100i, if you want to spend that much.

Well for 35€ (i dont know the dollar price) i can really recommend  the Coolermaster Hyper 212 Evo. I just got one for my moms pc with an Intel Core I5 3570k (overclocked to 4.3 ghz on Offset voltage, because I'm lazy) and it keeps it under Prime95 small fft at 75°C max. while not being too loud. Under normal use (browsing etc) i cant hear it over the hdds. I just got a Noctua NH-D14 for myself, but iam waiting for my psu before i install it, because this thing is massive. As soon as I installed it i will tell you more.

If you have space for an H100i, get that. If not, wait for the NH D-15.

we need a budget

budget is roughly 80$ this case doesn't really support much mounting for a rad, (it would have to be a 120mm to fit a rad) don't really want to go to liquid unless absolutely necessary.. this case has a top mount PSU as well.somewhat regrettably I got a cheaper case with poor cable management options. as for overclocking right now I'm stock clock and really new to this, would like to OC at some point in the near future (have to get it cooled properly first though).

k. when are you expecting your psu...currently I stay at home a lot and cant play any games due to heat.

Get the NH-D14 or if you are afraid of compatability get the NH-U14s as it give very similar performance to the D14. They will both allow for very high overclocks (I have the U14s and have a 3770k @ 4.6GHz). They are also both some of the quietist coolers on the market.btw if you care about silence don't bother with any AIO's.

my psu arrives and i run my nh-d14 with the ultra low noise adapeters, because my mobo doesnt support regulating the fans via voltage (the nh-d 14 fans are 3-pin ones, so no pwm), and at about 900rpm fan speed its practically silent and in prime 95 blend tzest my 3570k (4.4 ghz at 1.2 volts) stays under 60°C at normal room temperature. You have to make sure that you case supports its size, so you dont run into Loki420's issues.

yup. I've been debating on a new case though...can't stand the cable management in this one...
