As anyone found any native 8K videos on YouTube? So many videos claim that they’re 8K, but are they? I mean, I’m on mobile, but have you found any native 8K? Maybe 8K 60FPS? What I mean by native 8K, is that 8K, that is actually 8K, not on a 1080p screen. Anyone have an 8K TV that you have watched 8K videos? Also, on like 1080p screens, can you go above 4K, and it actually look 4K, not just looked scaled up?

There are indeed 8K videos available on YouTube, though the YouTube video player won't always give you the 8K option unless you're using a supported web browser and/or it decides you're "allowed" to view in 8K resolution. (I've occasionally found the player to let me switch the resolution to 8K one moment, then not allow me to switch it to 8K on the next refresh of the exact same video in the same browser because RAISINS.)

If you use something like youtube-dl (or yt-dlg now that the former has been essentially abandoned) you can extract all the possible media formats YouTube has stored on their CDN for a given video. Check the spoiler below for the 3 lines that contain the 8K (7680x4320) video streams in the video linked below.

I'm lost in your first sentence, but I'll try. I have only seen up to 4K on a TV or computer monitor, however, I've experienced the equivalent of 12K resolution on a 1255.477 inch screen (that's over 104 feet diagonally) before the BC Museum switched from 70mm IMAX film to the inferior 4K Laser system.

No, you cannot magically make a screen with only 1920x1080 available pixels have more pixels than it was originally built with. There are different methods of scaling down content that's higher resolution than your display, but a 1080p display will always be 1080p resolution.

On mobile for the web browser version, at least for me, it’s capped at 720p for MOBILE. The regular YT app is only capable for 4K on mobile. (Although, I will check the video that you send me.) On my school laptop, it was also capped at 4K, so I thought these videos were lying, but apparently not. Also, did 12K look exactly like 4K, or did you see the difference. 12K sounds awesome, but then again I can barely tell the difference between a 4K and an 8K TV. When videos are 4K, but on a 1080p monitor, how do they scale up? Do they just add more sharpening, because you can’t possibly add more pixels to a full screen of 1920x1080.

1080p screens have ~2 million pixels (things that emit light)

4k footage has ~8 million

 

 

you physically can not watch 4k footage on a 1080p screen, it's not software based, it's hardware based, the equivalent of asking if you can take an oven with a max heat of 400 degrees and just turn it up to 1000

There is no point in watching an 8K video if you don't have an 8K display. Watching on mobile is lunacy.

 

There can be benefits to watching a higher rez video than your screen resolution similar to what Nvidia does with DSR. But you would need a media player that downscales properly and I don't think YouTube does this.

 

I've never seen the mobile app let you select higher than 4k and even on desktop you have to have the right browser to watch 8k. Last time I checked Firefox didn't support it.

 

To answer your question yes there are plenty of 8k videos on YouTube. But a lot of it is upscaled trash and many don't even have 8k playback as an option. You can find reputable channels like Jacob & Katie that do real 8K.

on youtube for my iphone (about 720p screen lol) lets me watch 4k video, it doesnt look like true 4k but it looks sharper. i think they just dial up the sharpness and scaling

Now I have a relatively simple 55-inch 4K TV as a display for my High-End PC, but I had three different 8K TVs before that, in 75, 86, and 85 inches. There are more and more 8K videos on YouTube, and they look absolutely incredible. Just don't fall for the fake ones, where the uploader did just upscale 4K content. Reason why 4k YouTube can look better than 1080p YouTube on a 1080p monitor is not anything to do with the extra resolution, that gets lost. The reason is the higher bitrate.
