MSI Aegis 3 power upgrade?

deanmiller.offshore

How do I upgrade the power supply on my son's MSI Aegis 3 PC?

It is 450w at the moment, I want to increase it to 550w, is it possible?

HELP! HELP!

-> Moved to Power Supplies

It seems to require quite a bit of DIY, PSU is all custom and doesn't have standard connectors, so need to find the right form facto that will fit, do some case mods to install it, and then modify the connectors...

I.e. definitely not a plug and play replacement.

You use this as a learning opportunity to build a PC with your son.

Make sure the MSI goes to eWaste and not a landfill.

Why?

To install a better GPU. It's ok. I've installed a Gigabyte RTX 3060 vision 12bg GPU, works perfectly. Power running around 95%, GPU 99%. Games are working fine though.

The Aegisx3 I have has a 600W PU silver unit. What makes you think it is 450W?

You bumped a two and a half month old thread to ask this?

And nobody wants to download your PDF virus.

There are different versions.  OP has an Aegis 3.  Not an x3.  An Aegis 3 has a 450W PSU:  https://www.msi.com/Desktop/Aegis-3-9th/Specification

A Aegis X3 is different and comes with a 600W PSU: https://www.msi.com/Desktop/Aegis-X3/Specification

So you are using a 3060 12gb with the 450 Watts from factory?

Cause I have the same problem (MSI AEGIS 3 8th edition 450 Watts  PSU), I need to upgrade my PSU but it's really hard to find a psu that will work with my motherboard (can't find any). The pc worked very well for me, no problems in over 3 years (no other PC I had achieved that) but now I need a new GPU. So I bought a 3060 12 gb (200W at max power), seems to work fine but I'm scared it might not be enough since the cable gives 288 Watts max to the GPU.

Can you update me if it's still working well for you?
