Compatible RAM for MoBo

topperj

Looking at getting an  Asus PRIME B550M-A (WiFi) and was wondering if Corsair 2x8GB 3600 DDR4 would be compatible with this Mobo and a Ryzen 5 3400G.

Here are the tech specs stating that 3600mhz RAM is supported as overclocked:

Here is the QVL showing which specific kits were tested with the Mobo:

The CPU's memory controller might struggle with 3600MHz, older Ryzen didn't go well with high speed memory in general.

B550 boards do generally not support Zen+ CPUs. The 3400G confusingly is a Zen+ processor, not Zen 2 (like the 3600) - either get a 5600/5700G or use a B450 board.

there are B550 boards that withed with Zen+ APUs like the 3400G during launch even if they are not listed in CPU support table, not sure if this has changed since this was never an offical thing to begin with.

But the B550M-A has no redeeming features over B450 boards aside from PCIe 4 which you dont get with the 3400G and honestly, only needed with high end cards which buyers of low end boards like this wouldnt be able to afford. Just get a B450 board.

So would an ASRock B450M/AC work with 2x8GB 3200 RAM?

If I'm not mistaken a 3400G is a Picasso CPU so it only supports upto 2933Mhz Ram.

That's indeed the official spec, yes.

That doesn't necessarily mean that it won't work at higher speeds. Depending on the board and the RAM sticks it might also run without any problems at 3200 Mhz in XMP. No idea about the board you specified, though.

Late answer maybe, still want to set something right about the 2x00 series of ryzen and b550 motherboards.

I'm running on this moment so called Frankenstein build....

Meaning, Ryzen 2700x with B550 chipset with memory @3200 clock.

Gigabyte b550m dsh3.... The ryzen 2700x should be zen+ right?
