Anything I could make better

Heres my issue with that list, it's too overkill, at least for what I'm doing. Like I don't need 10 cores, I don't need a 3080 (It'd be cool to have though), and I won't maintain a water cooler very well. Like the upgrade from a 3700x to a 5800x, that makes sense, but the thing that's a bit annoying is while I'm spending more money on a GPU, I should get a higher refresh rate monitor to keep up, but that makes the build more expensive, and a 3080 is overkill for a 1080p display, and the display I want(ed) was only 144hz because the best card I'd ever plan to upgrade too is like a 2070 Super or 2080 Ti because anything over that is 1, very expensive, 2, a bit overkill for what I'm doing. All I'm doing is gaming on a decently fast card, I'd be going from a laptop with a 6 core 10750h i7 and a 1650 to an 8 core processor and 1660 super/2060, that can handle things over medium settings.

Intel changed how their CPUs work with 12th gen. While it's a 10 core CPU, it's only got 6 "P" or performance cores. In games, it'd be closer to a 6 or 8 core CPU.

For the 2070/2080ti vs 3080, If you're wanting a 2xxx series, are you going to play with Ray Tracing? If not, just grab an AMD card. Even a 6700xt or a 6800 (non XT) will probably do you just fine.

That's a solid system. Depending on your purposes, I would up the monitor to a 27" or 32" 1440p monitor for an, overall, more enjoyable setup. Would be nice to get a 2070 instead of a 1660 too, but all in all, it's a good system.

Yes. Make a completely new list. Assuming you're planning a new build.

Flaws:

  • 3700X when 12600K and 5600X/5800X outperform it at similar/cheaper pricing.
  • Overpriced and overkill cooler
  • Odd storage configuration. Poor value

Answer these questions please:

  • Budget and country?
  • What are you using it for?
  • Near any Microcenters?
  • When do you plan on buying?
  • Any specific color scheme?

I'd have gone a 5000x but I don't have enough desk space for it lol.

I see 3 drives. 2 SSDs and a HDD. The 2TB HDD seems to be for storage, but what about the SSDs. One is for OS and the other is for?

Price of GPU is insane right now, but the 1660 Super does not justify that $500 price tag, when the card originally cost less than $250.

Get a newer Ryzen, but overall the system looks okay, except for the overprice GPU.

Budget: $1500-$2000
Country: U.S
Yes, one Micro Center
When I get enough for it
Black or white (Doesn't really matter)

The other ssd is for more games, better load times and launchers (Steam, etc.)

Which one you're using it for games, the NVMe. It won't make a worlds difference in better load times, etc with games.

Around 2K USD (depending on how much you spend on GPU) - https://pcpartpicker.com/list/7BgDp2
My advice: Go for a GPU first, then build around it. (6800XT/3080)

Will heavily outperform the original list.

I'm not actually trying to be as grumpy as it seems.

I will find your mentions of Ikea or Gnome and I will /s post.

You may not need 10 (6Perf) cores but the IPC and single-core performance is outstanding while still being cheaper than your original option. Anyway, here's this:

https://pcpartpicker.com/list/DxGvz7

The build has a 3070/6700XT listed in it, but you can go with whatever card that meets your budget.
Just DO NOT pay 500 USD for a 1660 Super.

Spending more upfront = delaying next upgrade. A 3080 for 1080p is not dumb if you plan to play current and upcoming AAA games for the next several years. GPU's age real fast if you want to play the latest and greatest games. You can still play AAA games on the gtx 1080ti even today and that's about 4 years ago now. Is it pretty overkill for most games at 1080p today? Yes. Will it be in the future? Probably not.

Now what is more important is what games you want plan to play. If you're not really into AAA games, then yea you don't really need a 3080 or any modern GPU. Use case is pretty important in determining what you "need".

For reference, I use a 5600xt on 1440p 144HZ monitor and I have no problems. However, I do play mainly older games and mmo's so that's why it's fine for me. Monster Hunter World is the most intensive game I have and I do need to lower settings for it to run smoothly. If you're okay with doing that, then getting "lower" end cards isn't really the worst.

It's $500 for a 1660 super or $700-$800 for a 2060. Which seems smarter, or should I get something better than those two?
(All prices in USD)
