Studio speaker recommendations

Hi

I am looking at purchasing studio/desk speakers for my computer setup. I don't have a dac or amp, and are looking for the best bang for the buck speakers at a reasonable price (total price around $300 USD).

I would love to hear your thoughts and recommendations.

Many thanks.

This is what I have though

Amazon.com: Micca RB42 Reference Bookshelf Speaker with 4-Inch Woofer and Silk Tweeter (Dark Walnut, Pair) : Electronics

with a crown power amp, but that would be out of budget.  This power amp has good reviews on amazon

Amazon.com: Rockville 3000 Watt Peak / 800w RMS 2 Channel Power Amplifier Pro/DJ Amp (RPA9) : Electronics

*The micca and power amp combo requires a lot of space though

Or he could just get a Fosi amp in the $50 to $80 range.

Those iLouds are a bit thin on the low end.

I just asked about powered studio monitors and gave a budget in a paid chat room of audiophiles, this was the first response from an admin.  As to where to buy them you've got me

I know that many amps are over rated and poor quality.  I'm unfamiliar with the fosi brand, though I think I got a little dac/amp for $50 from them but put very little use into it.  Anyways my point is that brand is everything in a world of subjective numbers and chinese products, far to easy to make something crap and sell it for cheap.  Also, again, I don't know about fosi amps, but my crown has a giant toroidal transformer that is more than $80 in copper alone.  I just go off recommendations of people I trust and fosi hasn't come up so far.

Look at your local classifieds, there will very likely be some used powered studio monitors there from a respectable brand like Yamaha, KRK or Tannoy. These will almost always beat any consumer audio solution at a given price point.

Kali lp-6's, JBL 305PMKII's are solid picks, Presonus and mackie make some monitors as well. You could always take a look at edifier speakers as well, if you want a sub they sell those for cheap as well, and can be paired with their speakers. They won't be the greatest though, you're definitely getting a "budget sub," in other words they'll be capable of playing relatively low, but they wont sound too hot while doing it. Chuffing, one-note subs, that stuff is gonna be pretty common.

Though, KRK isn't always known for having the most neutral monitors. If perhaps somewhat boosted bass and treble are your thing, the krk's could be solid. But taking a looking at used speakers that would normally be out of your budget is a tried and true method, just remember to use common sense while shopping used, especially on a local marketplace. Definitely though, consumer audio products are a significantly step down.
