I'm looking to complete my build, and the last part I need is a GPU. I was either thinking about getting a GTX 780 or a 2GB or 4GB 770. If I get the 780, then I will have to stick with the stock cooler for a bit on my 4770k until I can afford a better one. If I go with the 770 though, I can afford a better cooler like a Swiftech H220 and get some overclocking going. Is the 780 worth the extra $130 or so and not being able to overclock? I have to run my monitor at 1680x1050, so I can't even do 1080p without everything getting too small to see and inducing eye strain. Or should I just wait for the 880 to come out, and see how the prices drop with the older generation?

I believe that the 4GB version does slightly better (Talking 5 FPS MAX here) at higher Res. Id go with the 770 2GB and buy the CPU Cooler.  Or if you plan on upgrading your monitor to something higher then 1080p id go with the 780Edit, Im don't know too many things about cards, but I feel like this is a step in the right direction

Just get a 780. Intel's stock cooler is fine. As long as you're not overclocking.

The thing is though, I spent the extra money on the 4770k so I CAN overclock. I do plan on it in the future.

Or wait for 880? I wouldn't because it hasn't even been announced yet.

I just heard some buzz about it and figured that they were planning on announcing soon.

What 770 do you have and how does it perform in games like Far Cry 3 on max settings, non 1080p res? That or ARMA II is the most taxing game I play, so if I can play that and maybe do some recording, I should be fine.

i have the gigabyte one, but it shouldent really matter which one you get, i mainly play bf3, and i get 120 fps + on 1080p. i only got it very recently, the gigabyte one is really really quiet compared to my 7870 xt

So I should be even better because I can't play at 1080p. The 770 is seeming like a much better option now. I think I'm gonna save the 200 bucks and go with the 2GB 770 as apposed to the 780. I really wouldn't be getting my money's worth if I went with the 780.

770 4gb

What tangible benefit does the 4GB have over the 2GB? Am I gonna see something like 15FPS or more? if not I don't think I want to spend $50 extra on the 4GB.

you will only see more fps on high resolution gaming, like 1440p gaming, if you do not game at 1440p you dont need 4 gb, plus the bus size isnt large enough to use the full 4 gb

Yeah doesn't it only have a 256 bit bus? How much of the 4GB is actually usable on this?

Because you have a limited budget, don't get a cooler right now. Overclocking isn't going to give you a benefit that a 780 will give you over the 770. Buy the 780 now, save up after you built your computer, then upgrade your cooler later.

I got a GTX 680 (the 770 is basically the same just a little better with a higher memory speed) and I max out anything, and I mean ANYTHING without even breaking a sweat on my card @1080p. (though I do overclock it to the same speeds as a stock 770 just for fun)

Alright, I think I'm gonna go with the 770 2GB. I won't be doing SLI (board doesn't support it), and I don't even need to run at 1080p (don't run my monitor at that). I'll use the money I save to get an SSD, RAM, and a CPU cooler.

780 hands down.i upgraded from. 7704gb tp the 780 right after the price drop (thank you amazon)

No regrets. Hands down better than the 770, I don't have to worry about anyhting.

Overclocking your CPU that is high end to being with isnt gonna give you much improved real world performance and i'd rather go for the graphics card over the custom cooler.

Unless you're an OC enthusiast of course

Get a 770 and a 1080p monitor. Save up for a AIO cooler afterwards, like the H100i, or a H320 if you can fit 360mm rads.
