setting up dslr setup with an old camera i got for basically free. an olympus evolt e300.
i have everything i need but it seems to not like the sandisk CF card i fed it today.
windows also agrees and freezes when i try to acess the card through my cameras usb port (i have no other way of acessing cf cards at the moment)
what do i do about this?

the card is a brand new from sandisk themselves. its a sandisk 32gb extreme or SDCFXSB-032G-G46

Have you tried accessing the CF card externally, as in not in your camera with an adapter? It sounds like it may be something wrong with the camera.

Do you have a smaller cf card? Since that camera is pretty old, it might not like 32gb cards. Try to find a used 4gb or simmilar, best would be from the correct time period.

Id really get a cf card reader, its really the best way to copy files from it.

Unless you have another way of accessing it to format it, I would say no. I will say that if you have a 3.5in expensing bay and internal USB2.0 you can get a reader for about $10

okay well for now card doesnt matter to me, getting the cam setup to my pc is more important. im using an elgato camlink 4k and it doesnt seem to want to show any video when i select it.

How are you getting video out of the camera via HDMI? There's only an analog video output (which is to be expected of a camera from that era).

Well It doesn't have live view, so you can't use it as a webcam or video.

im using the original cable and an adapter to get it to hdmi. ive tested them all and they work. maybe its because the camera has no card and therefor doesnt think it can display anything?

Well it isn't able to do video or show whats going on currently. It can only take pictures. If you want a webcam, you will need a different camera.

Link? What cable is this?

that just isnt true. ive seen several other do it.

Can it show the sensor output on the screen? Basically all dslrs at that time had no live view. The E330 is the newer version with live view.

Can you see the current view of the camera on the screen?

The video out on these old cameras was for showing photos you took on your tv, not for viewing the output of the camera live.

Yea it can't do live view or view. The camera doesn't support, the newer model does, but your model doesn't. There is no way to use this camera for video or a webcam. The video out is only for viewing photos on a tv, not video.

ive seen it done before so i know its possible. first off i have a display that i connect to this camera for larger live wiew while recording videos and taking photos. that should be enough proof to know its possible, just confused why it isnt working now.
