I have an RX580 8Gb Gpu that crashes when under any demanding load. Games like Rocket League, CS:GO, Valorant, and Apex Legends work fine, but games like Far Cry 5, Forza 5, and COD Warzone always crash within seconds/minutes of loading. Forza doesn't even make it past the opening cinematic before the screen freezes, turns off, stops outputting, then turns back on again. Computer typically is still running while it happens, but sometimes the entire computer will freeze too.

I'm running Windows 10 21H1,

Asus TUF B450 Mobo

AMD Ryzen 5 2600

AMD RX580 8Gb

256gb SSD + 2tb hard drive

500 Watt EVGA psu

2x8gb Corsair Vengeance ram

What I DO know is that it is a driver timeout issue. It crashes, stops, then reboots itself. If the game engine picks up that it happened, it typically will say that the Gpu driver timed out and then I need to restart the program I was using. I've looked all over the internet for different solutions, I've already reinstalled drivers (after uninstalling with DDU), I've swapped motherboards, CPU's, rolled back drivers, updated to the latest ones, nothing has worked.

Are you sure that your GPU gets enough power? You can use this tool to check the power recommendation from your PSU https://outervision.com/power-supply-calculator

well that would explain it lmao. Got a recommended 750 watt psu

Yea, 500W seemed a bit low for your system. Also, it could be a good idea to check the temperatures. I use HWMonitor for that. If your CPU og GPU exceed 90 degrees C, then it can also be a problem. Check if there is dust in the heatsinks and fans, and if the CPU is very hot, it can be that the CPU paste needs to be reapplied

Really? I get 387w for your specs...

Not really,  I can run r5 3600 + rtx3070 on a 500w psu no problem.

I dunno how op got a 750w recommendation,  thats pretty much over kill for a system like that.

Spoiler

Here's my power usage running heaven, ~300w max, cpu is at 22% so add another 100w for 100%, we're at ~400w, which is also what im seeing, usage is around ~480w *max*, so still fine with a good 500w psu (tested, no problem)

That said, if its a low quality psu it may still be a problem.

I agree that 500w can be feasible, although I think it's the minimum for a system like this, so I definitely think it should be looked into. And you probably didn't enter all other accessories that he might use, which also uses power.

So I would recommend looking into the temperatures first before investing in a new PSU. And as you said, if it's a low quality PSU, it can also degrade over time

I don't disagree,  I was just pointing out something must be wrong with that 750w figure as it seems really overkill.

A good 500w would be totally fine,  the thing is some 500w evgas are pretty trash so yeah.

I gave him several hard drives and 4 fans. : p
