Forza Horizon 5 very low FPS

Avocheeseado

Hi, I have recently installed FH5, and have found after I enter the game, when driving and in the menus, my FPS averages about 3-5 (medium settings). It may start going at higher for a brief period of time (1-2mins) and then go back down again. I have also recently installed windows 11 (and have an AMD chip) so have updated chipset drivers to the newest ones. This and a restart hasn't fixed any issues. I have a Ryzen 5 2600 & RTX 2060, so it should not struggle to run it, even at high settings.

Any ideas on why this is happening and how I can fix it?! Thanks

There is alos a Windows 11 update that goes along with the chipset drivers, would be good to double check that that has installed. Also make sure you have updated your graphics drivers for your 2060. The easiest way to do this is with GeForce experience.

Just done that, doesn't seem to have fixed the issue... one other thing - my GPU usage is only about 10%, so is not being utilised at all

corsair vengeance 16gb 3200mhz c16

But running them at 2933 or something MHz as 3200 was causing stability issues

My guess is it has something to do with that game only supporting DirectX 12 and the 2600 and 2060 combo.. Do you have any other issues in any other DX12 games?

EDIT: Is ray tracing on? How is it with RTX off?

You were right! I have just turned it up to high and turned off ray tracing and now works fine, lets hope it continues to

It has just gone back down to 20fps... even with ray tracing off!

Edit: it went up to 90, then down to 20 after about 5 secs

Okay, so I would first try setting everything to low and see what that does, make sure the resolution percentage is 100% or less. If that doesn;t help, try doing a clean installation of your graphics drivers, either with DDU or the clean installation option when installing NVIDIA Drivers.

OK, for some reason now setting it to low doesn't do much... it almost seems as if RTX is on, even tho it isn't. Is it worth downgrading to Windows 10 again to see what happens?

You can force settings off in NVIDIA Control panel under 3D settings if you wanted to try that, It might be worth trying to downgrade...

Things to force off would be like V-Sync, Ray Tracing, you can set power settings to max performance etc.

One more thing for now, i tried benchmark mode, and it played it through at high settings at about 90 fps… but as soon as I try and play it seems to be locked at 32fps at high, medium and low settings. Sometimes it goes uo to 60 or 90 and then back down, but it feels like the game is slowing and speeding up constantly, until it levels off at 32

Sounds like a game issue then. Maybe a reinstall? I haven't played the game yet, but offline mode might be worth trying too if there is one. Also if there is a hidden fps cap setting

The 2060 on there at 1440p extreme managed 15 fps higher than mine on medium… I will try DDU, reinstalling forza and downgrading to windows 10 to see if that affects it

just very annoying after paying a lot of money for a game, it doesn’t work perfectly out of the box

Does it only do this with Forza and no other game?

Could possibly be thermal throttling but seems unlikely. Can't test easily with my 2070s with similar card to find out more because I'd have to drain my waterloop reee D:

edit: damn windows 11 for not being ready lol I forget people use it this early. Glad it worked out!
