TV cable got cut

Thanks, but it seems that my cable has only 2 wires inside if you look at the picture? Option to complain with the painters is gone, they said that they didn't do that, but they were the ones in the house alone for last 2 days :S

Like I said, the third wire (the green/yellow one ) is optional. So you can use a plug with 3 pins with your cable that has only two wires.

Follow the video and connect the blue and brown wires in the plug as shown in the video and you're good to go.

The green wire is for extra safety, extra protection, but it's not required if the power supply inside the TV is designed in a specific way to offer enough protection for end users. For this reason, your TV doesn't have that third wire because it's considered unneeded.

But you can still use the 3 pin plug as if the cable had that third wire.

So painters managed to cut my power cable for TV. Anyone know what could I buy to have this connected? I'm from Ireland so I would need our type of sockets. Below is the picture of cable that was cut by workers.

Also, will this be safe if fixed or should I throw away whole TV?

I don't know how it works across the pond, but state-side, you'd complain to the painting company and they'd replace the TV. They have insurance for this stuff.

Aside from that, you should be able to replace the plug onto what's left of the cable (assuming it's long enough).

P.S. What were the painters cutting with in the first place that would go through a live power cable that cleanly?

You could solder a new cable / plug on it, but solderwing such as wires can be suuuuper annoying. Another way to get a plug on this again would be using a screwterminal, which would be very sketchy and not at all recommended.

I assume this TV has a hard-wired cable and not a figure 8 (C7) plug, right?

In either case, I'd drop a complaint with the painting company. This type of damage should fall under their insurance.

Is the cable removable or not?  If the cable is removable, the connector on the TV is often standard and you can just buy a replacement cable.

If the cable is not removable, sigh ...  Get a plug  and install it.

Example plug: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Faithfull-Power-Plus-PLUG13R-Rubber/dp/B000Y8Y3NS/

Carefully cut the black sleeve maybe 2-3 cm  / 1 inch to get access to the two wires inside.

Use a sharp knife or a blade to cut about 1cm of insulation , insert the wires where they're supposed to go and use the screws to lock the wires in the plug.

See the video below - your TV doesn't have a ground / earthing wire so that green/yellow wire is missing in your cable

Your other option is to get a ready made power cable : https://www.amazon.co.uk/s?k=uk+power+cable

Cut the other end of the cable so you end up with loose wires,  Remove the back lid of your tv , insert the cable through the hole in the back panel of your tv and then attach the wires in the proper places (where the original wires went) ... may need to solder or to crimp some stuff to the wires.. i forget now what's the term, I think spade terminals https://www.amazon.co.uk/s?k=spade+terminals

IEC C5, C7 and C13 (like on your power supply) are standard connectors, and you can buy ready made cables for them

random search results, may not be the best or cheapest cable

C13 (like on your computer power supply) : https://www.amazon.co.uk/Ancable-Computer-Samsung-Monitor-Appliances/dp/B08CKG57N1/

C7 (aka mikey mouse) , without earth wire : https://www.amazon.co.uk/Keple-Mains-Compatible-Playstation-Figure-3m-9-9ft/dp/B01LO3J3YK/

C5 (C7 with earth wire) : https://www.amazon.co.uk/Ancable-Cloverleaf-Compatible-ThinkPad-IdeaPad/dp/B08CTZ5Y23/

God I hope C13 is standard.  IMHO, it should be illegal to sell any display without a C13 female on the back.

Anyways, for a 1080p, 40" tv, I don't expect much.  So just add a plug, as others above noted.  Everyone should have a 10 quid pair of wire-strippers as a matter of principle--so use those and crimp a new plug on.  Add heat shrink or electrical tape to cover exposed wiring when you're done--if needed.

Side note, literally any appliance repair shop worth 2 pence can and should be able to repair a cord like this.

Thanks, but it seems that my cable has only 2 wires inside if you look at the picture? Option to complain with the painters is gone, they said that they didn't do that, but they were the ones in the house alone for last 2 days :S

For everyone asking, cable is fixed to the TV so I can't just replace the cable unfortunately :S

Should be easy enough to splice in a new cable and connector. Hell you could salvage a similar gauge wire from some other piece of electronics you're throwing away.
