This is one of my servers which is a fairly big virtualization server. I have a GPU for plex that does all the heavy lifting for that. CPU threads is really not an issue most of the time.  As mentioned above, memory is really the biggest limiting factor. My board supports up to 128GB which I can use a fair amount when I spin up my vCenter Lest Lab

If you don't mind sharing what sort of workloads do you run on the server? (Inside Windows server 2019) I can see that CPU utilization is quite minimal. Does the cpu or the board have integrated graphics or are you running 2 gpus? Another question, would you reccommend UnRAID as a hypervisor as i am still deciding what hypervisor to use. My choice was either Proxmox or UnRAID.

The biggest VM there is the Ubuntu VM which has a docker with my Plex automations. The CPU on that really only gets load during intro scans and if theres a lot transcoding content at the same time which doesnt happen to often. My other Ubuntu VM is reverse proxy & webserver and some general automation scripts for stuff that I do. The Windows server is predominantly an RDP management server. I use it to manage various web based applications mostly and for something I can use when im on VPN. It's the only windows machine that can be RDP from externally or from my VPN.

I dont have integrated graphics, I just have a single Nvidia GPU which is passed from UnRaid to the VM to Docker to Plex (yeah its very convoluted).

As far as recommending it? UnRAID is great if you want flexibility in your storage. I really like it because of that reason, and its packed full of features in an easy intuitive web UI which can take care of 90% of what you want to do. I didnt want to run ZFS at the time. Proxmox I would have gone more towards if I wanted to use ZFS. I'm really excited for TrueNAS Scale actually, but its still in beta so I wouldnt be using it as a primary server deployment.
