Is it worth the upgrade to go from 3000mhz to 3600mhz on a ryzen 5 2600/ Asrock b450m steel legend. Both are 16gb kits running in duel channel. I do plan on upgrading to a better cpu but not for a while. I tried looking on Reddit but it seems like every answer is different.

TIA

Just shove a 5600x in it but update bios first with your current 2600 so its compatible with the 5600x

With Ryzen 2000, you probably won't be able to get 3600MHz running. 3200MHz is about the highest you can get most of the time. The difference between 3200MHz and 3600MHz is about 5%, and the difference between 3000 and 3200 is even smaller. I personally wouldn't bother upgrading until you get a new CPU and motherboard, especially since DDR5 is coming to the mainstream.

Everyone has been super helpful and knowledgeable so il give a little more information on my situation.

My current build is as follows:

Ryzen 5 2600

Asrock b450m steel legend

G.skill tridentZ RGB 16gb (2×8gb 3600mhz)

RTX 2060

I am building for a friend currently so far we have

Asrock b450 steel legend

6700xt

Corsair vengeance RGB pro (2×8gb 3000mhz)

We have everything else just need a cpu.I have a corsair case and getting a corsair AIO and wanted to match everything so we are talking about trading kits. So I guess the guess the question is more on the lines of; will I be taking a noticeable hit to preformance knowing I will upgrade my cpu down the road?

Not really worth the money, no. That's a massive investment for very little gain. On paper, sure you might gain a little. Noticeable? Not really. Just go with what you already have.

Tried overclocking it to 3600? You may not need new RAM 😉

For CPU I would wait for 12th gen (Nov 4th), 5600X is also solid and should work without motherboard upgrade.

Overclocking RAM is a pain in the ass, overclocking RAM on Ryzen is a fucking nightmare.
