Justifying The Notch?

I have an iPhone XR, the notch doesn’t bother me since I know it has several other sensors required for faceid and there’s not really a better way of doing it (though they could make it smaller).

I think it’s dumb to put it on a laptop and not have faceid though. Maybe they’re preparing to add it to MacBooks in the future, but right now it’s just a weird thing to throw into a laptop. The tiny amount of screen you gain doesn’t really matter. I’m pretty sure the notch on the MacBooks are as large if not larger than the notch on my phone, so it’s just an odd thing to add if it’s just a camera and nothing else.

I think it's weird to be so screen obsessed we'll cut a notch into the screen just so we can say we have a .1inch more larger screen.

I think it's more being able to remove the menubar from the screen size equation. More screen real estate is good. I'd love to hear an argument against it?

Nah, because a bezel has additional benefits,  such as usability (it makes a device easier to hold and operate)

This is a laptop. If you are a holding a laptop by the screen bezel you are doing something terribly wrong.

plus a "notch" apparently means non standard screen ratios

...sure, because you still get a 16:10 screen ignoring the notch. This is a super weird thing to complain about.

The notch serves no purpose,  doesn't offer more "screen real estate" (not without heavy drawbacks) Ever wondered why 23:8 etc tvs never took off... ?

Hm? It objectively offers more screen real estate, for one. Secondly, it means you have a 16:10 screen ignoring the menu bar. Can you name a single drawback for me?

either its phone bigger or screen smaller....why the heck would you not pick bigger phone without notch...that means no bar right to the side of the video

Taking away the screen to add a notch is kind of stupid in my opinion. They already had a very thin bezel to begin with they didn’t have to do this lol

is water wet?

i don't know what I'm doing either...

I don't care if apples new laptop can somehow obey the halting problem, with that ugly notch, I am not buying it.

You can enable a larger top bezel (with no notch) with software. It would just be dumb tO do so.

That's the point, the notch being so tall if you do that it's much larger then it'd have been if designed well.

My XPS has both a very thin top bezel and a webcam in it, it's possible...

I don’t think that was his point, if you read what I quoted (“yeah I agree, Just give us a dang bezel...its not a big deal Id rather have a bezel than a deformed screen”).

It is weird to see people arguing that apple should be using less function to favor more form. "make your camera worse so that I don't have to see a notch that is not functionally detrimental"
