Looking for Some Input on Parts for my First PC build

nvaid

Budget (including currency): $1,000 (USD) excluding the GPU I already have

Country: United States

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Cyberpunk 2077, Assassin's Creed Valhalla, most upcoming AAA games

Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): I already have an ASUS ROG STRIX RTX 3060, just happened to win a newegg shuffle and got one, so I have decided to give up on consoles and build a PC. Looking to play most AAA games at 1080p with high framerates, but to also have the ability to upgrade my monitor at home to maybe 2k down the line. I mostly just want something with that can serve as a great baseline that I can build on it in the future and I am looking for places where I can save some money on the rest of this build. This is my current list:

Ditch the 3600 and NH-U12s and buy a 5600X and use the stock cooler. It'll cost less and perform better. The 3600 isn't that great a value now, either go 11400 or 5600X.

You might want to get faster memory, assuming prices aren't terrible.

You don't need an SN850. Get a SN750 1TB instead, performance will be practically identical and by the time Gen4 drives are useful, they'll be dirt cheap so might as well get it then.

I wouldn't pay full price for an OEM key, just go on eBay or another key reseller and get one from there for like $10

Lose the Windows key and deploy that toward a 5600x, as it's much better than the 3600.

I like the RAM.  Ripjaws means you're cool 🙂

No idea on the motherboard, people say there are better ones than others but if you're not OCing to the nth degree, it's just a board to plug shit into IMO.

SSD.. I wouldn't pay $108 for a 500GB drive, you can get 1TB for that.  I'd get 2 drives, one to boot, one for data.  Personal choice.

Case is cool, cuz Fractal.

Honestly the motherboard was one of my biggest questions. I didn't want to spend $300 on a board, having wifi built-in would be a plus, and if I can avoid having to do a BIOS update I would prefer that. The problem with using the 5600x was that pretty much every board I choose says I might need to do a BIOS update. Is it something I should be avoiding, or it that not much of a big deal?

Updating the BIOS isn't too hard, just remember not to touch the parts until it fully shuts down. You can check this video for more details. You would need a motherboard with bios flashback to do this though. Some motherboards you can go with are:

MSI MAG B550M MORTAR WIFI

Asus TUF GAMING B550M-PLUS (WI-FI)

Gigabyte B550 AORUS PRO AC

Or if you want to avoid all of that, you can go with intel. The 10400 is a pretty good deal at the moment.

I saw a deal on a ryzen 7 3700x with the Asus TUF gaming B550M plus wifi. And this would actually be cheaper for me than the 5600x and a motherboard. Would this make sense as an alternative and if so should I be looking at some better cooling with the 3700x
