How can one create a chosen image from text? The text needs to be ordered and readable.

I dont really get what you mean.

Which programming language?

Do you want an image with text, so you cant mark or copy it?

I don’t necessarily want to use a programming language.

That's done through photo compositing, not programming. You need Photoshop or something else that supports clipping masks. There are a bunch of tutorials on YouTube if you search for "portrait text".

Ah, you are looking for ASCII art? (ASCII-Art.Che (wikimedia.org))

Maybe this?:

You need Photoshop

Or do you have a given text and want to make it as an image?

Then you can adjust the brightness of the text depending on the image brightness.

A free photoshop alternative is gimp by the way.

Yes. But you mean doing it manually?

If you want to to it automatically, you can use a trick.

For example:
You have some white text on black ground.

So you create your image as a PNG. Bright parts transparent, dark parts black.

If you put that image over your text, you get what you want.

And you can change the text as much as you like.

You can’t feasibly do what you linked manually. It would take an obscene amount of time and considerable artistic ability. You need need something that has clipping mask tools.

Clipping mask the text so the text shows the image.

Then make a bounding box for the text in illustrator, Photoshop or whatever and it will auto wrap the text in it.

I still dont know for which application that will be...
I know website programming...
So if you can force the text into the shape (4:3 for example) of the image, and you set your images width to the width of the text, it should use all the text.

If you just want a desktop wallpaper background, use gimp.

You can do that easily with Illustrator. Just draw a shape with the path tool, switch to the text tool, select the path and enter the text you want to appear in the shape you drew.

image.thumb.png.af336c1e8572740740848cd1439f3387.png

If you want the exact same effect as the Nietzsche image, you'll need to import the desired photo and set a blending mode so depending on the brightness of the background, the text changes brightness.

Not at all this was like idk 2 minutes one of which was starting photoshop and googling an image. Keep in mind this is like 0 effort. Give me 5 or so minutes and me caring a little about it for a good result. I just clipping masked the image and then put a mask on the group and just quickly painted out what I didn't want. No refining or anything done yet just a quick paint and selection tool (hence why the x is there since I missed it).

Also @Avocado Diaboli is spot on with what I meant for illustrator.

No joke the reply took longer than making this monstrosity 😛

Huh??? I’ve been saying that something like Photoshop is needed for the entire thread. Not sure what you think you’re proving me wrong on, lol.

My response about it not being feasible was in regards to manually typing, shaping and shading without the use of an image editor with masking.

It is very easy to do with any language that can draw graphics. You just format the text with a monospace font. Set a reasonable factor for example 2 character wide/high per pixel.

Generate an image of the correct size. Then for each letter you draw draw it the color of the image at that pixel location. It should take about 1-2 hours to code and test.
