If it's not i'd rather get the 5600x or the 3600.

The sooner you give up the future proof mentality the happier you'll be.

The 5600 will last longer than the 10400 - it's faster and more efficient and has newer technology. It will also play current games slightly better when given the right conditions, but often that is in excess for most people and not fully realized without a killer GPU, which is unlikely your case given your budget.

But it's very unlikely that in the space of 2 years games won't play on a 10400 but they will on a 5600x. They'll play better on the 5600x, but probably not that much better. Then you'd have to ask yourself if it was worth $150 when in 2 years $150 can at that point buy you something better than both.

To put in perspective, the consoles employ low-ish frequency Zen 2 chips (Ryzen 3000 series) with graphics around the power of a 6600XT give or take. They are less powerful at gaming than the 10400F. These consoles have a 6ish year lifespan. I would say that if you went with a 10400F/3600 with a 5700XT/6600XT/TX 3060, you should expect console-like performance until 2025-2026 or so.

Hello, i started looking on some deals because i want to build a new pc.

Im between:

Intel Core i5-10400Fxlarge_20200916151319_intel_core_i5_10400f_box.jpeg.99cbb0214b3ada8e2a622db76a423108.jpeg

or

Ryzen 5 2600xlarge_20180416114151_amd_ryzen_5_2600.jpeg.f9dd309f9247adef6457d346662fdb16.jpeg

I live in Europe so the price difference is about 10 to 20 euros.

Just to clarify, this pc is strictly for gaming.

If it's strictly for gaming, the 10400F beats the 2700

Given that the motherboard prices are the same (usually Intel motherboards are much more expensive than their AMD counterparts), the intel will win this fight by a landslide in basically everything.

are you considering independent GPU??

if tight on budget go for AMD RYSEN 3200G/3600G

I have a 1050 ti for now until the prices drop and i'll go for an RTX 2070 Super probably

You can't get 3600 for a similar price? Then I think 10400..

Unfortunately, where im from, The Ryzen 5 3600 is 100 euro more than these two cpus and im kind of tight on budget

Go for the Intel unless your mobo choices cost too much.

10400 over the 2600 is a no brainer but

These are both old chips at this point and you're better off with the 5600x if you can swing it

Is the 3600 better than the 5600x because the 3600 in my country is worth more than the 5600x.

Nope, the first number in the CPU name is the generation, (5 in 5800X) and the last three are core count.

Higher = better, 5600X is a generation above 3600 (because AMD kinda skipped 4th gen)

Easily the 10400F. In gaming it's better than a 3600, which is much better than a 2600. Just make sure to get a B560 board so you support full memory speeds

Not at all, the 5600x is the best out of all of these.

The 10400 is about the same or slightly better at games than the 3600, but worse in computational stuff.

How much is the 5600x vs the 10400?

Depending on what kind of GPU you pair it with, that's a really big difference for marginal gains in games.

The 5600x would be the better buy if you play a lot of esports/mmos because those tend to be CPU games, but if you're playing a lot of GPU limited games the 10400F makes a lot of sense being so much less expensive.

The one thing that im afraid of is because its intel will it be "future proof" and i mean, like am i going to have to get a new CPU in 2 years because it cant play the games or is it going to be fine.

If it's not i'd rather get the 5600x or the 3600.

Thanks, you really helped me a lot, not only you but all the people here that had the time to help me, i'll aim for the 5600x but if i cant, i'll go for the 10400. Thanks again to all the people here ❤️
