780 vs 290x for liquid cooling

Planning a system upgrade and don't know if I should get a 780 or a 290x. I heard the 290x has higher temps, but I don't think that matters with liquid cooling. I think these two cards are at the same price point too?

I don't care much about shadowplay or PhysX (if that's even a thing anymore).

ah you're right I totally forgot, especially because I'm not gonna have the money for a few months. Do you think they'll be out in 2014?

i think what i'd do is building the loop just dont put the gpu in there yet, keep the 670 and then throw a 880 (or so) in the ready loop next year.

Or do you have any specific problems with your 670 or a too low fps rate for the games you play right now?

Isn't that still an unconfirmed rumor? I'm not saying SweClockers is untrustworthy, but they're the only ones who reported on that (everybody else who wrote about it just cited SweClockers as their source, as far as I can tell)

Not really, right now, but I'm getting a 120hz monitor soon and want most games to be able to run close to that. And also I want a quiet build, and my gpu fan is kinda loud.

Why is the 290x pointless?

I think it's because you can just oc the 290 easily to the 290x
