Which GPU Setup is best?

So, here I am, an 11 year old (I will be 12 in the next 3 months) in the year of the mass GPU shortage, looking to build my very first PC and I have a budget of $1,900 CAD. I have to choose a GPU now and I have decided on 2x RTX 3060s, or an RTX 3080, I was wondering which config would be faster. I also have never asked anything on LTT.com before and so this might be the completely wrong spot for this, if so let me know how to fix things please!

The main issue is that prices will probably be well elevated for the next bit. (Also Canadian here) Recently I've been seeing 3080s for around 1300+VAT even directly from retailers like Amazon.

I don't think you can even SLI 3060s. So. There's that. The 3080 will be faster, but it's too much of your budget; it won't fit into a balanced build.

What monitor do you have? Can you even make use of a 3080?

I would seriously recommend a 3080 - 2x 3060 is pointless since they don't have an SLI connector (GPUs need that extra connector to 'talk to' each other) and therefore you couldn't use 2 at the same time.

Okay, I knew that SLI was dead but I thought it might be an okay performance gain but apparently not. I have done some work and upped my budget by a couple hundred bucks and think I might be able to fit a 3080 in maybe, if not I think I might go with a 2070 super or something like that. Thank you all so so much for helping a new comer like me out!

 

also, I don’t exactly know how to close a thread like this so that’s the last thing I’ll be asking here.

The only Ampere (3xxx) GPU that supports SLI is 3090. With 2 3060s, you'd have one that essentially renders your game. The other is an extra monitor adapter unless you're doing something like F@H on it.

GST is a VAT. PST/QST/HST or whatever province you're in calls it is a VAT. I just call it VAT because I don't know which province OP is in.

No, it's not. VAT is calculated differently than a sales tax. They're not the same thing.

I know. Afaik GST is calculated like a VAT, not a sales tax. That's what Wikipedia says, at least.

If your not going to get the 3080, I suggest the 3070 or 3070ti over the 2070 super. The performance gain is minimal but you would have a card that would be supported for longer and more future proof.
