Looking for recommendations

Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): 

 

Right now i've got...

 

Motherboard MSI Z390-A pro

GPU EVGA 1080ti

CPU - i9 9900k 

32GB Ram - hyperx 

Power supply - 650w bronze 

a NVME 1tb ssd

couple more ssds that are like 250-500gb and 1 HDD 1tb

Some massive heatsync called noctua 

 

My case is extremely old. like from 2008

cons

right now my side panel doesnt even fit on because the cooler sticks too far out

flat front no air flow

no case fans

horrible wire management

pros

like 5 cool badges on the front and a bunch of crappy stickers 

 

 

 

Things im considering upgrading are...

 

Power Supply

GPU - looking at 3080ti EVGA (Whenever i can get it at a regular human price)

AIO cooling option

and for the love of god, an actual good case (looking for functionality over visual pleasure)

Budget for these components is around $1200 CAD take or give a few buckeroos

 

 

 

I have my old build sitting in my closet consisting of some old parts that i want to put back together possibly as a makeshift living room pc

Some MSI motherboard

i7 3770

8gb corsair vengence ram ddr3

450w power supply

Can you send a picture? If you have a massive noctua cooler then keep it a nhd15 is amongst the best coolers on the market if that is what you have. So skip aio cooling.

 

For a psu the msi mpg or enermax revolution D.F. would be great units. If you go for a 3080ti I recommend the 850w version of those psu's.

 

For a case well first I need a picture to validate that cooler. Then well plenty of cases on the market really.

 

Sadly a 3080ti is not going to happen it costs more than your entire budget.

What's your goal with the machine?  9900K and 1080Ti are still a stellar 1440p combo.

 

Honestly, the way generational improvements are going you still have another couple gens out of that CPU and another one for that GPU.

 

At least that is how I am looking at it, with my very similar build.

3080ti is on a separate budget from the current upgrade budget

 

I've got a 240 hz monitor so im trying to push any titles i play to have a consistant 200+ fps if possible on just 1080 res

 

This thing is old and needs some love.

Yeah, the case needs a refresh.  I'd go that route for now, since a good case will last many years.  

 

I don't understand separate budgets, as money is money.  But glad you understand that holding off on the GPU is the smart play for now.

 

I assume you have your CPU and GPU OC'd a good bit as well?

Thanks to everyone whos posted on this. From what i see most people saying is. my rig is actually decent enough for a while however a case would be excellent.

 

Any specific recommendations? the reason i cant close my side panel is because one of the fans either on the back is blocked by the motherboard or the ram on the front.

 

The reason i want to upgrade some of the other components (PSU / Case and possibly heatsync) is for future expansion on the build.  i didnt realize the noctua was that good

I just helped someone a month or two ago do a build in the 4000D airflow. It's also a really nice case. Can be a little bit expensive. 3070ti FE, 10700k on a U12(the Noctua cooler that's 1/2 or so of your D15) and his temps are great. FE stays below 75C.

Here she is right at this moment, love this case but I am biased. By love  And yes, I have mirrored walls in my dining room.  Previous owners were... odd.

Yes, the Define 7 is newer than the R6. Keep in mind the one you lined is the Define 7 Compact, which is more similar to the Define C in terms of size. 

 

Both perform very similarly, if you want more airflow there's the Meshify C & Meshify S2 (both are based of the Define c and Define R6 respectively) and Meshify 2 (based off the Define 7). You might be able to fins the older versions at a lower price, but you may not be ablet to find them at all since they're no longer manufactured AFAIK.

 

Beyond Fractal, theres cases like the be quiet! Pure Base 500DX, Corsair 4000D, Phanteks P300A, P500A (the P400A does not support coolers above 160mm like your Noctua), Lian Li Lancool 2 Mesh, Cooler Master Nr600, Mastercase H500
