PC Build for Uni. Gaming and Video Rendering

bradwiggo

What is your intended use for this build? The more details the better.

Going to be using it for gaming as well as video rendering (conversion more than editing stuff)

If gaming, what kind of performance are you looking for? (Screen resolution, framerate, game settings)

1080p is probably as high as I will go. I already own the GPU, so I'm not too concerned about the build from a gaming perspective. Would like to be able to get 144Hz, so as long as the CPU can handle that.

In what country are you purchasing your parts?

I'm in the UK

I am building a PC for using at University. It will mainly be for gaming, as well as video rendering (not like editing premier pro things, moreso handbrake, avisynth, ffmpeg etc etc. I'm into "data hoarding" and a lot of that involves processing video files).

I already own the RTX 2070.

A few main points I'm not sure about:

1) Is the RAM okay? I remember when Ryzen first came out there was a lot of stuff about which RAM is best for it. Is "B Die" RAM supposed to be the best?

2) Which motherboard? I basically just picked a random one here to get a full build list. Does it makes any difference to the performance? (not planning on overclocking)

3) How is the NR200/P, is it a good case? Decent airflow?

4) Any other issues with the parts list I haven't noticed?

Specs:

  • i5-8600K
  • Evga Black RTX 2070
  • 16GB DDR4 2400MHz
  • ASRock Extreme 4 Z370
  • Fractal Design Meshify C Light TG

Location: UK

Plays: Minesweeper at 1000 fps.

I would recommend the Lian Li TU150 instead. You can also just go for SSD storage right now. The HDD will be the slowest, bulkiest part of your build.

Why do you think the Lian Li is better than the NR200P? Is it just an aesthetic preference or is the cooling a bit better?

Somehow i can make my list 95£ cheaper and also upgrade the cpu to a 5800x, most likely cause i chose the p200a which somehow supports an atx psu

That case is big compared to the one I had. I hadn't considered the 5800X though, it does looks to be a decent bit better than the one I had before. However would I have to upgrade the motherboard BIOS? I don't have any other Ryzen CPUs.

It should do, the case specs say it can fit about 155mm, and that CPU cooler is 125mm according to PCPartPicker. I found a build which used it as well: https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/b/896RsY

Usually no

And in the uncommon circumstance where the seller was lazy and didnt update the f ing bioses most mobos have a bios flashback feature which allows you to update the bios without a cpu installed
