my old pc just passed away but idc cuz it’s dual core

now i want to upgrade to a 12900k but they’re not coming out for like 2/3 months and i really need a pc

i currently have a 500gb hdd, 6600xt, 3x 750watt gold psus, so now all i need is recommendations for cpu, ram, mobo but…

i’ll be turning this pc into a mining rig as soon as i get my 12900k so i need a decent motherboard with 5+ pcie slots for not more than 300$, i want 16/32gb ram for not more than 150$, i want a 8+ core cpu used/new for not more than 200$

oh and cpu needs to have 65 watt tdp unless it’s a good i7 or i9 of course

so yea budget is around 600/700$ and as i said as soon as i get 12900k i’m turning this into a mining rig

i don’t want to have a slow ass pc for 3 months while i wait for 12900k🤢🤮 that’s why i need 8 or more cores

just need some recommendations

editing and playing runescape 3 on 5 accounts at once until i get my 12900k and after i get the 12900k the pc will be used for editing/making videos and mining while 12900k will be for gaming and streaming

8 cores under $200 points you towards very old CPUs unless you go used; There's a possibility of finding a Ryzen 7 3700X on eBay once in a while, so under the assumption you succeed with that, the MSI MAG X570 Tomahawk WiFi is a great board under $300. This G.Skill kit is a good option for your RAM.

A new board & chipset are confirmed with LGA 1700 being the designated socket for Alder Lake, so unfortunately going Intel to start would offer 0 benefits for upgrading. Also, if speed is your concern, a 500GB HDD is going to contribute to the issue heavily; Consider the ADATA XPG Gammix S7 lineup if spinning rust doesn't sound appealing.

Finally, mining on a desktop computer setup is hazardous unless you're going caseless. Almost every new card so far has been a power & heat monger, so attempting to cram even 3 of them with PCIe slot separation is madness. No motherboard out there has 5 full slots.

There is no mobo you can buy today that will support 12th gen Intel. It's a new socket and chipset, and neither have been released, yet. However, I wouldn't jump on that bandwagon anyways. It's a totally new architecture and you can almost guarantee there will be bugs and other issues. Besides, it's all going to be stupid expensive at launch, as totally new tech like this always is.

wait so the 1700 mobo will be 500+ and the 12900k will also be 500+?

i mean id pay up to 500 for a mobo and up to 500 for the 12900k

if they’re going to be more than that ill go buy a 11700k right now and i’ll upgrade in a year from now when prices become stable

seriously if 12900k and mobo end up being over 1k i need new recommendations for a new system

im not going to overpay for something i honestly don’t even need tbh

at this moment all i need is a mobo that supports 2/3 gpus in pcie4

i want 2 or 3 gpus plugged into board and another 2 3 outside

i have 2 6600xt 2 3080s and i’m getting a 3090 next chance i get

i only want 5 gpus plugged in although 7 or 8 would be fantastic but i know that’s unrealistic without having a dedicated mining board which isn’t too good for gaming and video editing

need a cpu with 8 or more cores

if i wont be upgrading for a year then i need 32/64gb ram

it will be open case although p8 might work?

so yea any suggestions are appreciated

sound like you need a dedicated mining rig and another pc for use. this costs a lil more money since u gonna need yet another gpu but u can mine and  do other things at the same time more efficiently. thats probably the reason your pc  died in the first place.

it was just old although mining, editing, gaming, streaming at the same time will probably make the pc pass away a lot quicker

can’t really think of anything good i mean microcenter near me has 3700x for 220 and 10850k for 300 and 10700k for 250

think those are some tasty deals

or i can get 12core 3900x idk think i’ll just get 3700x for 220 get mobo for 200 and get memory for 200 and we’ve got a good pc and yea i’ll still be using hdd because i’m not wasting $ on ssd when i can just use what i have and it’s my hdd from 2009

Don't know about the pricing of the cpu but you can get sub 200 motherboard that still what i would call "more than what it was necessarily needed" and a 16gb of ram for around $70

Also why not spending any on ssd?

You can buy a budget one and used it as boot drive and still re use your hdd for storing data...

so im here deciding between 3700x or the 11700k

11700k is 300$ 125w w/o cooler

3700x is 230$ 65w with cooler

for 3700x 200$ asus strix b550, 200$ for 32gb royal z @ 3600mhz cl18

now id go for 11700k because b560 mobo is around 200 and trident z royal is 200 for c18 4000mhz 32gb

my issue is the cooler… i read that 11700k requires a 100-200$ cooler so not only is it 80$ more but it also wastes more electricity which is horrible since it’ll be mining with my 5 gpus and it also requires at least 100$ for a cooler

what are your suggestions?!. was gon go for 10700k which is 250 but i need pcie4

my main concern is the tdp while mining and the cooler

Ram is overpriced, and its weak asf cl18, get ballistix 3600mhz cl16 rams instead, they also have an rgb version

Lol

expensive does not equal better

You could find a crappy 4 heatpipe being sold at 100$ and that is technically a "100$" cooler

Idk what to suggest since i dont know what you use your pc for

That cannot be possible.
There are 40$-50$ aircoolers that can get rid of heat from 250+ TDP CPU's...

When i ask for more specs, don't expect me to know the answer!

I cannot, sorry.
Not a fan of RGB and RGB does put about 10$-20$ on top of the price for no good reason besides the unicorn vomit. 😉
So then that would be more like 50$-70$ for an RGB aircooler.

-edit:

Did a quick google, according to this site the Cooler Master MasterAir MA410M is a good contender for RGB aircooler.

But thats 70 bucks and is outperformed by many on htat same list that are sometimes half the price.

i just want the trident z royal because it’s beautiful

oh and i’ll be upgrading in 2/3 years anyways

do idk it’s either 3700x or 11700k because that’s what my microcenter has to offer and i think it’s an amazing deal

games i’ll be playing is runescape 3 on 5+ accs so 5 clients open, ill play some bf5, and i really like ww2 games

i feel like getting into streaming too

According to my googling the UX100 has only 65Watts of TDP dissipation performance, not enough for the CPU you mentioned.

i mean if this was 12900k i’d easily spend 200$ on a cooler but this is a 300$ cpu, i’m not spending more than 55

You dont have to.
It does sound like are willing to spend the extra 20 bucks on the RGB tho.
And thats ok, but you REALLY need to include that in the budget.

Either you get a cooler that has aworse performance at that price with RGB.

Or you get a really good aircooler for that price. 😉

Unless im missing a really good RGB cooler for under 55$

okay it doesn’t need rgb but if prefer any lights on it, what’s a good one? cuz i kind of want a 10700k for 300
