It will be more durable than cardboard, and should be cheap.

 

(The best fix is to buy a new case, but you could do that after the move)

you think if I take a piece of cardboard and cut it to the same size as the panel it would work? With holes in the same spot?

As long as you write the measurements on it yeah.
